Presidency University, Kolkata is a better to place to study economics than BITS, Goa, or Hyderabad. Presidency University, Kolkata is well known for its economics department. It also has an excellent subject record.

In the national ranking too Presidency University comes at the top. One of my cousins studies at Presidency University, Kolkata. And he vouches for the Economics degree provided by the institute.

Taking into consideration various factors like fees, faculty, it is safe to say Pracidency University is the better alternative.

But if you are looking for placement after graduation, then joining Presdancyi will not be a good idea. Although their Economics dept. Is well-renowned, they don’t offer placements after graduation. You will have better placement opportunities at BITS Goa.

President University:

Presidency University is ranked at 151st position by National Institutional Ranking Framework in 2020. The graduation program is of 3 years where the tuition fees to be paid is 2,125/- per year. This university has a legacy of 200 years and it is well established.

Eligibility & Selection Criteria:

• Students seeking to obtain admission at this institute must have completed 10+2 with 70% in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology from a recognised school.
• Students are required to appear in the Presidency University Bachelor Degree Entrance Test (PUBDET) which is followed by counselling.

Placement:

• Top recruitment firms like Deloitte, Mu Sigma, TCS, HSBC and many more visit the campus for placements. 
• Overall placement percentage of the institute is 70%. 
• The average package which a graduate receives is 5 lakh p.a. whereas the highest package offered is 13 lakh p.a.

Amity University:

Coming to Amity University, the fees structure for BSc 76,000/- per year, which is relatively very high when compared to Presidency University. This was established in 2015, but it has a world class campus at par with Ivy League Universities.

Eligibility & Selection Criteria:

• To obtain admission, the student must have a 50 % aggregate score in class XII. Students should also have a minimum score of 50% in Statistic or Maths.
• English test is conducted by the university to check the language proficiency of the student, which is followed by the Personal Interview.

Anyone who is ready to invest a good amount of money in their education and great infrastructure can choose to study at Amity University as they have got the better placement percentage and have brilliant companies coming to recruit at their campus. Presidency University as well offers good placement and they have comparatively very less tuition fees.

Presidency University Kolkata has been ranked 151 by NIRF in 2020 among the top universities of India while St Xavier’s College Kolkata is ranked at number 9 for Arts by The Week in 2020. Both the institutions are known for their well-structured program curriculum and world-class faculty within the Arts department.

The total student intake for Bachelor of Arts English Honours at Presidency and St Xavier’s are 30 and 100 respectively.

Presidency University Kolkata:

• The University follows a combination of grounding British literature as well as the global diversity of the English language with the aim of developing the linguistic skills of students.

• The curriculum is divided into 12 courses, with 12 core subjects and 4 optional open elective modules, which students can choose to specialize in.

St Xavier’s Kolkata:

• The course curriculum is spread across 6 semesters with a core focus on British English literature, including drama, prose, poetry, and history of writing and literature.

• It offers a more detailed course structure in terms of understanding the English language through the works of multiple writers and researchers.

Faculty:

Presidency University Kolkata:

• The faculty members within the English Honours department facilitate interactive informal discussions and tutorial sessions where students and faculty get to interact on a more personal level.

St Xavier’s Kolkata:

Presidency University Kolkata has a larger campus as opposed to St Xavier’s Kolkata. While both institutions offer great resources in terms of a well-equipped library, reading materials, language labs and study halls, etc.

Placements: Both Presidency University and St Xavier’s Kolkata offers decent placements.

The top recruiters at Presidency University are Cognizant, MOU, etc. Some of the major recruiters at St. Xavier’s Kolkata are Adidas, Ernst & Young, Asian Paints. Most students of BA English Honours opt for higher studies, instead of appearing for placement drive.

Based on the given factors, students can make a well-informed choice between the two institutions for BA in English Honours.

Both colleges are great options for studying statistics. 

Presidency University has a glorious history and the department of Statistics is one of the best departments. The university has great alumni which makes it score higher in terms of ‘Heritage’. One of the most famous names among them is P.C. Mahalanobis. There are dedicated faculty members like Prof. BR and Prof. PD, who is an alumnus himself. 

One of my friends has Statistics as his electives but he never got the chance to be taught by these reputed faculty members. Students are highly dedicated and excels in their respective university exams.

Graduates from this college pursued post-graduate studies from reputed universities like ISI, CMI, IMSc, etc. If you have Honours in Statistics with Mathematics and Economics, then it will be a great combination.

In terms of environment, you will get a sense of freedom at Presidency and a change to form a opinion on various aspects of life. However, St. Xavier’s College is also good but it is very strict and you will get a feel of school there. It is known for its discipline while Presidency University is know for its creativity.
