Which college is better between NIT and ICT Mumbai for chemical engineering?

RJ
Raghav Jaiswal Posted On : January 28th, 2021
Worked at Aditya Birla Science and Technology Centre

ICT Mumbai wins this battle. It is one of the best-known colleges in India for chemical engineering. The table below shows the rankings for ICT Mumbai:

Ranking Organization

Rank

NIRF (Overall)

34

NIRF (Universities)

18

QS (India)

22

NIRF (Engineering)

18

Times (Asia)

92

Starting from experienced faculty to great learning experience, placement rate is commendable. An average package deal for a chemical engineering student from ICT Mumbai is around 5 lakhs, which is pretty good. Also, several chemical industries and companies pay frequent visits to the campus.

A friend of mine is an ex student ICT Mumbai. Here are the reasons why ICT Mumbai is better than an NIT:

  1. ICT, as an institute, strictly concentrates on chemical engineering. The chemical engineers passed out from this institute add-up to its reputation and good word.
  2. In terms of location, it is situated in the middle of industries from both Mumbai and Gujrat on either side. It will be convenient for the student to get himself/herself an internship in either of the industries or get a job during the placement session.
  3. In terms of faculty, the teachers appointed are themselves specialists in the department of chemical engineering. Also, they have a good connection with multiple industries.

Therefore, ICT Mumbai is the most favorable choice.

As for NIT, it depends on which NIT one is mentioning. If they are referring to NIT Rourkela, Warangal, Tirchi, Surathkal then they are good. The rest of the NITs aren’t up to the mark.

How does the Laxminarayan Institute of Technology fare as compared to ICT, Mumbai? Should I choose B.Chem of LIT over any specialized branch of ICT?

AD
Arindam Dasgupta Posted On : November 2nd, 2020
Studied at Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (2015)

Laxminarayan Institute of Technology is one of the best institutes in Maharashtra for engineering studies. It is located in Nagpur and affiliated to Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University or Nagpur University.

Institute of Chemical Technology has received an A++ accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council as well as the Ministry of Human Resource Development. It is now an autonomous university. It has been claimed to be the 18th best institute for Engineering by NIRF rankings.

Courses:

  • Laxminarayan Institute of Technology provides B.Tech and M.Tech courses in a number of disciplines including Chemical Engineering.

  • Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai provides a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and a Masters of Chemical Engineering. It also provides aspiring students with the right base to pursue masters and research work in the field of Chemistry.

Campus:

  • LIT Nagpur has a 78-acre campus which contains academic departments, a library, hostel accommodations, scientific labs, and gym, etc. There are 9 academic departments functioning at LIT Nagpur all situated within the campus.

  • ICT has 3 campuses and each campus is 16 acres each. It provides a feel of the corporate world to the students and provides all facilities in their few buildings.

Admission Procedure:

  • At LIT Nagpur 85 percent of seats are reserved for Maharashtra candidates. B.tech admissions are done on the basis of MHT CET or JEE mains score. M.Tech admissions are conducted on the basis of GATE score or other relevant scores.

  • ICT Mumbai requires MHT CET scores or JEE mains scores for admission into its various courses. For its specialized courses, it has a higher cut-off.

Placements:

LIT Nagpur:

  • It provides placement opportunities to both UG and PG students. The training and placement cell is able to place over 100 students every year with the participation of 30+ companies.

  • Major employers include Adani Wilmar, Asian Paints, CEAT Tyres, IBM, Honeywell, Mahindra, TVS, Sterlite, etc.

ICT Mumbai:

  • Major employers include BPCL, Pidilite industries, Johnson & Johnson, TATA Power, Nerolac, etc.

  • The highest package offered was 18 LPA with the average being 5 LPA.

Thus it completely depends on the student which institute they get admitted into. In terms of courses, ICT specialized courses have more value if the student wishes to pursue a career in the same field. LIT courses are good at providing a foundation to the study and the student can either go for specialization or study another field post this degree.
