How can a student from poor family afford to study at IIM Ahmedabad? My father nearly had a heart attack when he heard about their fees structure. Is 25+ lakhs for a 2 year MBA program worth it?

TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : September 13th, 2023

I don’t think you should worry about the high fees at all since the banks on campus take care of 100% of your fees. All you need to do is show them your admission letter, and they will provide you with decent loans. Many banks are easy to give you loans of up to 30+ lakhs some without collateral too in the case of A, B, or C.

Once you have made it to IIM Ahmedabad you can change the date of your family. With enough hard work, you can land a job that will help you repay the loans within 3-4 Years.

So what you need to do is just become determined to work hard and earn your fees!

Can a poor student afford IIM?

Yes, most IIMs cater to the financially weak strata and offer scholarships to their students. Additional support is offered to students that require financial assistance. The eligibility criteria for such scholarships and financial aid is an annual household income of less than Rs. 6,00,000. Additionally, students that face hardships because of unusual circumstances can also avail of financial assistance offered by the IIMs. A few scholarships offered by IIM Bangalore are

  • Aditya Birla Scholarship
  • OPJEMS Scholarship
  • Citi Women’s Leader Award
  • Societe Generale Global Solution Centre India Scholarship
  • Siddhartha Padam Award

Apart from the above scholarships, students can also apply for other State Government Scholarships routed through financial aid and scholarship office.

How is Mumbai University?

OS
Omkar Sawant Posted On : March 23rd, 2022
M.Sc(computer science) from University of Mumbai (2020)

Don’t choose Mumbai University for pursuing a course. You should look for other alternatives.

  • The teaching methodology used by the university is outdated. You won’t learn the practical aspects of your subject. The syllabus isn’t updated.
  • The university website takes ages to load. You will need hours to accomplish a simple task of 5 min on the website.
  • Mumbai University exam and revaluation system aren’t effective. A friend of mine was declared failed in his university paper, due to their counting error. This is not an isolated incident. If you talk to the students of the university, you will hear many such cases.

In terms of academics, examinations, and other related factors, it is not a good university.

Is IIIT Bangalore better than NITs?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : October 10th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

IIIT Bangalore is a public-private co-owned college. It is supported by big corporations like Infosys on one hand, and the Karnataka Government on the other.

It is analogous to IIIT Hyderabad but less recognized in comparison. It has an exceptionally good coding culture and top-class faculty for both CSE and ECE courses.

Placement-wise, only the top 5 NITs are actually performing impressively. IIIT Bangalore M.Tech graduates are placed with good packages in top brands. iM.Techs of IIIT Bangalore secure good internships in top brands like OLA, HCL, Infosys, etc. Several of them are selected for GSoC.

IIIT Bangalore is far ahead of most NITs, except the top 3-4 of them. If you are interested in CSE/ ECE branches, this is the place for you.

What should I choose between NIT Surathkal CSE and IIT Kanpur civil chemical

AB

I would recommend you choose IIT over NIT any day irrespective of the branch because it is recognized globally. The quality of packages and roles offered are also better and with the right motivation and determination, one can even change his branch to a better one.

At IIT Kanpur, I would advise you to go for Chemical rather than Civil. BTech Chemical Engineering combined with Masters in Petroleum Engineering is the highest paying bracket in the USA with more than 74000 Jobs available for outsiders in the Middle East, US, and Canada at a five yr median of $ 18600.

Additionally, at IIT Kanpur the ocean of electives to choose from enables you to pursue CS course side by side through certifications in 64/128/256 bit SSL Encryption, Data Structures, and Oracle which have great importance. While CS students can be found everywhere, you will find only a few Chemical Engineers.

Concludingly, it’s best to go for IIT Kanpur Chemical for the long term or IIT Kanpur Civil with a branch change to EEE or Mechanical in mind.

How is the placement at the MNNIT in Allahabad for an MTech CS student?

AB
Akash Bose Posted On : April 24th, 2021
MNNIT

My brother has completed his M.Tech from MNNIT Allahabad and according to his experience, this institute lives up to the expectations in terms of placement. Here’s why:

  • If you have done enough justice to your studies during these 2 years of M.Tech, then the rest is assured. Although no specific CTC can be guaranteed, you will ultimately land a good job.
  • No doubt MNNIT Allahabad’s placement cell is very active and works hard for your better future. Thus, a long list of companies usually visits for campus recruitment every year offering a plethora of opportunities.
  • In my brother’s placement time, companies like Walmart, Sony, Cap Gemini, TCS, Samsung, Amazon, Directi, etc companies came for recruitment. However, you must be efficient at coding to grab decent packages in such big companies. Here also, MNNIT help you out with their bunch of bonafide students that take the "ComputerClub" classes.

Overall, if a placement is your goal, you are at the right place. Luckily if you belong to the CS branch in MNNIT or any other college in India, you can have one of the best placement packages. Most of the students of the CS branch get placed for jobs and internships too.
