Which is better: chemical engineering at NIT Trichy or computer science at NIT Durgapur?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 7th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

It's difficult to determine which is better chemical engineering at NIT Trichy or computer science at NIT Durgapur. In fact, it's illogical to compare two diverse fields and choose one between them. Both are completely different in the knowledge, scope, and job opportunities they offer. Clarity of goals is very important for the right choice. It’s better to analyze your inclinations first and put the choice of the institute at the back. Imagine your life after 10 years and picture what you would like yourself to be doing

In general, NIT Trichy is the best NIT. So if you have an interest in chemical engineering, and want to pursue a PG or research, then choose NIT Trichy. However, bear in mind that the placements of this branch aren’t very promising so it won’t be a very good choice if you are planning to work right after graduation. If you want a stable job with a corporate lifestyle, then choose NIT Durgapur CSE. You can also pursue an MS or MBA post-graduation.

Ultimately the choice depends on your career prospects!

I got a call from IIM Rohtak with 84.21 in the CAT NC OBC. Should I go for it?

RC
Ritwika Roy Chowdhury Posted On : August 2nd, 2021
Studies IPM at IIM Rohtak

It would be much clearer, had you mentioned your background. However, assuming two separate perspectives, let’s divide your present scenario. The first one is your work experience, while the second is your level of seriousness while preparing to give an attempt at CAT.

  1. In case your work experience is slightly less than 2 years, but you still went for a serious attempt: It might be a calculated risk. If you are confident enough about leveraging your present work experience, then you should secure at least around 95 percentile in the following CAT exam since it will help you become eligible for older IIMs.
  2. In case your work experience is supposedly less than 2 years, and CAT is a casual attempt: You might want to appear for the exam since you can still afford to lose one year and will be able to reap maximum benefits of your work experience once you get selected to an IIM.
  3. In case your work experience is more than 2 years, but the CAT exam is still a serious attempt: Unfortunately, it might become highly risky, given your present scenario. CAT is sometimes extremely uncertain when providing scores. So, it will be safe to go for it.
  4. In case your work experience is beyond 2 years, but it is a casual attempt: Similarly, the risks here are quite the reflection of the former statement. However, if you still have a really good job, and you personally want to add value to your profile nonetheless, then you can stick to it and try again another year.

IIM Rohtak is undeniably a reputed and well-known B-school and will secure you opportunities that are as similar as what other newer IIMs provide. The best way you would be able to leverage your quota will be your high scores, which should at least range somewhere around the 95 percentile. It will help secure a position at older IIMs. you should always analyze your chances, the recent market exposure your opportunities have. Depending on these issues, you should finally decide what you should go for.

How is Government Engineering College, Kannauj?

VA
Vishal Arora Posted On : May 5th, 2021
Bachelor of Technology Computer Science and Engineering, Rajkiya Engineering College, Kannauj, graduated 2020

My cousin used to be a student of Government Engineering College, Kannauj. Part of the construction of the college has been halted since 2016 due to a change in government. Even though minor improvements have been done, the infrastructure has more or less been the same since 2016.

Some of the pros of the college are:

  • Most of the faculty in the college has degrees from IITs, NITs, and even from IIITs.
  • The faculty always guides and motivates its students. The faculty helps in assignments like thesis, researching paper or reading journal, participation in Hackathon and in international conferences.
  • For CSE, ECE, and electrical branches, there are up-to-date lab facilities. The libraries have ample textbooks and reference books of international publication. They deal with subjects of various branches.
  • The canteen provides you with snacks as well as heavy meals.
  • There is also an SBI ATM on the campus.

The cons of the campus are:

  • The college lacks proper infrastructure and there is only one building in the college where all the labs are. The classes are also held in the same building.
  • No facility for transportation from the college.
  • WiFi facility is provided only on the first floor of the main building. It may be installed on the entire campus very soon.
  • There is only one hostel for boys and girls respectively. A lot of the boys end up as paying guests at Tirwaganj at some local houses.
  • There is no club activity in the college due to the zero presence of seniors during holidays and free time.
  • Till now, no company has ever visited the college, and placements are done off-campus or through pool campus.

It would be a good idea if you do not opt for this college because the placement opportunities leave a lot to be desired.

Her boss suggested she get some experience in the consulting sector. She was in a dilemma when she received Guild's offer to join.

With no experience, she would be making a risky decision of opting out of the placement process. But she finally took the step and accepted Guild's offer. Today she has no regrets for the same and is well settled.

How strict is TAPMI?

SG
Sanjeev Ghosh Posted On : March 20th, 2023
Studied Post Graduate Diploma in Management at T. A. Pai Management Institute

If you're considering attending TAPMI, there are some rules and regulations you should be aware of. Here's what you need to know:

  • In the past, a 100% attendance record was required, and you couldn't take night-outs or skip classes without a medical certificate from KMC, Manipal. However, the attendance rule has been relaxed, and you can take night outs if you get permission from the warden. If you need to miss class due to illness, you can submit a medical certificate from the in-house nurse.
  • There are still some strict rules that you need to follow. You must be inside the campus by 11.30 PM every day unless you have taken a night out. Smoking and drinking on campus are not allowed, and you must be on time for your classes.
  • To be promoted to the second year, you must maintain a minimum of 4.4 CGPA.
  • While all this might seem intimidating, there are plenty of opportunities to have fun. The campus celebrates all major Indian festivals, and there are lots of DJ nights, sports competitions, committee parties, class parties, and FAS group parties to enjoy. Plus, there are section wars and a great friend circle to help you get through the two years.
