Before joining an MBA program, such as Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar (XIMB), it's important to understand that your expectations as a recent BTech graduate will be based on factors such as your grades, the college or university you graduated from, and your major (such as computer science or mechanical engineering). To prepare for the MBA program, it's recommended that you brush up on key subjects like statistics, mathematics, excel, and economics.

Additionally, it's essential that you keep yourself updated on current events. This will help you understand the current business environment and be better prepared for the program.

PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (Graduated 2019)

The MBA course from ISB or the Indian School of Business specializes in offering Operations and General Management roles. My cousin is from the same B School. She has listed down some reputed companies that offer you Operations and General Management roles.

  • Amazon
  • Flipkart
  • Uber
  • Myntra
  • ABG

Apart from these specialty roles are also offered by big firms like Apple and Fung group. Many start-ups offer good packages in Operation and General Management roles. But IIM Calcutta is nowhere behind in this aspect. Both offer equally good roles.

Which college is better between SVKM's NMIMS and the ISB for an MBA?

MR

Studied MBA in Information Technology at S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research

ISB Hyderabad is the better option among the two. It ranks among the top-50 B-Schools in the world.

  • ISB Hyderabad's PGP admits students on the basis of their prior work experience. They expect each candidate to carry at least 2 years of work experience. It is the only flagship program of ISB Hyderabad.
  • All Mohali and Hyderabad campuses demonstrate the same kind of experience. But when it comes to the campus choice, you don’t get to choose it. All of them have the same sort of traits. Placements are campus neutral and happen in one place.
  • The career advancement service department at ISB includes 20+ members who provide the best job opportunities to the students from companies like Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Deloitte, Amazon, etc.
  • The visiting professors come from institutes Duke, Wharton, Kellogg, etc. All the faculties hold a Ph.D. and have their own journals published internationally.

All these factors make ISB one of the best management schools in India.

What is a better option during this time of covid19, a job at an MNC or an MBA from IIM/IIFT/XLRI?

RD
Ria Dhar Posted On : June 27th, 2021
Studied at IIEST Shibpur (2018)

You should take up a job at this point in time. Due to covid-19 many companies have frozen their recruitments and the campus placements are not happening as earlier. Even if you pass out from the premier Management institute there is tough competition this year.

  • Since a lot of companies and other financial institutions are not visiting the campus for placements.
  • Even if you do not get a job in a big MNC try searching for jobs in other companies and take any job that suits your profile.
  • Getting a job in a pandemic situation is not easy. If you want to prepare for CAT or other competitive examinations then you can do it along with your job rather than wasting one full year in preparation.

You should focus on building good networks in various organizations. You should also focus on developing your knowledge base, technical skills, and aptitude skills which are necessary for getting a good job.

Is an MBA from ISB Hyderabad worth the money invested?

Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : September 12th, 2023

There is no right answer to this question as the value of an MBA program can vary depending on individual circumstances and goals. It’s a personal decision and its credibility depends on many factors like -Why MBA, why ISB, and why now?

I have many friends at ISB Hyderabad pursuing an MBA and most of them claim that the efforts they invested while preparing for admissions were worth it. They got placed with decent packages and met many like-minded and smart people. They learned many life lessons in the 1 year. They had the opportunity to interact with more than 50 CEOs of top firms. Most of them claimed that their affiliation with ISB Hyderabad has uplifted their value in the industry as well as the society.

The general opinion of most of them was that the MBA from ISB Hyderabad was worth the time and money invested.

Which college is better for an MBA, BIMTECH, or Amity?

NS
Nikita Sharma Posted On : May 11th, 2021
Studied at BIMTECH

Well, many of my friends recommend going for BIMTECH. But honestly, none of these two are great options for an MBA.

Comparison:

  • At Amity you will find a beautiful campus and the management degree is better than the Engineering degree offered through it is a school of engineering in terms of academics and discipline. But in general, the management degree is quite average. You will get placement with an average package of 5–6 LPA which is below average for an MBA graduate. Yes, some 4–5 students manage to get a package of above 10 LPA.
  • BIMTECH has a better placement record, comparably. On average, you can expect to receive an average package of around 6–8 lakhs per annum. If you are lucky enough and have a good academic record, you can bag placement packages of around 9–10 LPA.
  • Talking about the overall exposure, Both Amity and BIMTECH have Good exposure, not as good as IIMs/XLRI or NMIMS/SP-Jain. You will find both of them have a good corporate connect where you get to attend a lot of conferences and workshops. Both colleges help you to find summer placements although, most of these placements don’t have much substance.

Parameters

BIMTECH

Amity University

Average CTC

INR 8.13 LPA

INR 14 LPA

Placement Average

96.59%

93%

Tuition Fee

12 lakhs

6.80 lakhs

If you have no other better option and you don’t want to repeat another year to prepare for CAT, only then go to these colleges.

Otherwise, Consider repeating another year and Aim for colleges like NMIMS (Mumbai), Symbiosis Pune, or XIM Bhubneshwar. These colleges are Good and the placements lie between 10–15 LPA, which is decent enough. You can even get into new IIMs with a bit of effort, if not the old ones.

What are the chances of getting into XLRI/SPJIMR if I have 1.5 years of work experience that's not relevant to the MBA specialisation?

SP
Shraddha Phalke Posted On : March 15th, 2023
MBA in Marketing & Finance, Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (Graduated 2018)

In XLRI or SPJIMR, having relevant work experience is not a requirement for admission. Having 1.5 years of experience in a different field will not give you an advantage or disadvantage during placements as candidates with less than 2 years of experience are considered the same as freshers. Moreover, any work experience is valuable and can contribute to your MBA education as it's not limited to specific areas such as Marketing or Finance.

In SPJIMR, if you opt for Finance as your specialization, relevant experience may slightly enhance your profile. However, for other specializations, you will have to compete with other candidates on an equal footing.

I have an MBA from MDI, Gurgaon and a work-ex of 6 years. Should I go for an MBA from an Ivy League?

AR
Abhishek Rathi Posted On : February 23rd, 2023
Studied MBA in Marketing & Operations at Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (Graduated 2017)

If your reason for joining the Ivy League is to launch a startup, then the main factor to be considered is how good your startup idea is and how much you are willing to achieve it. Being an MDI graduate, you can contact your alumni for funding or other assistance.

Once the seed stage is over, you might have Ivy League graduates lined up to fund you provided you really are an excellent prospective Entrepreneur. Moreover, by saving the fees of Ivy League which is around 30 Lakhs, you can use this money to build your venture’s MPV, grow, pay freelancers, buy basic fixed assets, and support your family during this lean period. If you are successful at building a great startup, the same Ivy colleges you were desperate to go to will offer you a more customized course that suits your profile perfectly. This will make you both a successful entrepreneur and a successful leader.

Is doing an MBA distance from IMT Ghaziabad after a 4-year gap good? I have only 1 year of work experience.

HN
Hardik Nagar Posted On : February 16th, 2023
Founder at Learning From Ant (2019–present)

It is not recommended that you pursue an MBA through distance learning at IMT Ghaziabad, especially if you have a four-year gap in your education and only one year of work experience. In this case, it may be more advantageous for you to apply to top B-Schools that are beneficial for distance learning as they can offer more value to your resume.

Another factor to consider is the placement services provided by institutions such as NMIMS, which can be beneficial for securing job opportunities after graduation.

While it is understood that the four-year gap in your education may have been due to valid reasons, it is important to consider your academic credentials. Before making a decision, it is recommended that you research other options such as distance learning MBA programs from TAPMI, Symbiosis, or certification programs offered by MICA and IIMs. This way, you can make an informed decision that will benefit you in the long run.
