Thapar University has 670 seats for CSE students. Does this affect placements, because after seeing the number of CSE seats, I'm a bit tensed to join Thapar University?

NG

Studies CSE at Thapar University

Yes, the huge batch size can be concerning. In case, if you compare the present statistics with the 2017 batch, you will notice the seat difference. 2017 saw a peak of only about 220 seats which undeniably helped students acquire multiple offers in the span of their course period even if they were not particularly exposed to the course academically.

Comparably, as the number of seats has drastically spiked, recruiters are often seen to only choose a handful of students who have the best skill set. The number of people getting into dream companies remains the same as before but you will need to compete with more people to get selected.

But if you think you can particularly ace Computer Science, then you can opt for Thapar University. There you will have the opportunity to sit for the interview sessions oftop firms, such as Microsoft and Amazon. According to the 2020 placement highlights, 264 companies visited the placement drive and the highest CTC offered was 43 LPA.

Should I take IIIT Allahabad IT for 5 years or IIT Roorkee GPT?

A
Admin Posted On : June 24th, 2024

If I leave my biases towards Allahabad as a city aside. I would choose IIT Roorkee over IIIT Allahabad.

Here are some reasons in support of my decision:-

  • The IIT brand that gets attached to you is an asset that shall forever remain worthy.
  • IIT Roorkee's GPT is an exclusive division that delves into geophysical survey methods and their use.
  • Older IITs like Roorkee boast a longer legacy and are highly esteemed for imparting quality Engineering education.
  • IIT Roorkee GPT has an Average Package of 14 LPA while IIIT Allahabad IT is at 20 LPA.
  • IIT Roorkee has better infrastructure and a bigger campus of 358.5 acres compared to the 100 acres of IIIT Allahabad.
  • IIT Roorkee is ranked 5th in the NIRF ranking while IIIT Allahabad is ranked 89th.

Which one is better: CSE in Kiet Ghaziabad or IT in JSS Noida?

A
Admin Posted On : May 15th, 2024

According to my experience as a former CSE student at KIET, choosing KIET over JSS Noida will be no doubt a good choice. You’ll also get the best infrastructure and faculty in the CSE branch.

There are considerably more opportunities here to do something unique in your field. I have seen my seniors getting placed at reputed companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Adobe, Accenture, and Infosys, to name just a few. Just last year, i.e. 2023, the highest package that they secured was INR 48.89 LPA. Moreover, about 93.98% of my seniors were successfully placed.

How do I practice the aptitude section of the GATE syllabus?

PJ
Priyanka Joshi Posted On : January 8th, 2021
B.E. Electronics & Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology (2022)

The general aptitude section of GATE is one of the most scoring sections of the test. There are a total of 10 questions- 5 with one mark each and 5 with 2 marks each. The GA section is divided into two parts: verbal aptitude and numerical aptitude.

Verbal Aptitude: Consists of basic English grammar like Reading Comprehension, Spotting Error, Vocabulary, Critical Reasoning, Sentence Completion.

Numerical Aptitude: Consists of normal mathematics questions like Percentage, Profit and Loss, Simple and Compound Interest, Venn Diagram, Blood Relation, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Data Interpretation, Clock and Time Sequence, Analytical Reasoning.

Points to remember while preparing for the GA section of GATE:

  • The questions are based on logic and common sense rather than basic formulas. One must be ready to face questions involving things needed in day-to-day activities like profit, percentage, discount, and other basic calculations.
  • The General Aptitude section cannot be aced with a one-day preparation. Questions should be practiced on a daily basis.
  • Try finding different methods to solve questions. Methods should be quick since it will help in solving the questions faster.
  • Focus on the basics of the topics rather than mugging up. Clarity of the concepts will lead to quicker solutions.
  • Visualizing the problem can help in problem-solving.
  • Solving aptitude questions while taking a break from other subjects refreshes the mind and also helps in solving the questions that one could not solve before.
  • Repeatedly solving the same problems helps in increasing the speed of calculations.
  • Practicing questions from 10th standard textbooks can help in brushing up the basic vocabulary and grammar and clearing up concepts.
  • Reading various English articles and watching shows aired in English can also help in developing the language.
  • Solving previous years/sample question papers on a weekly basis helps in giving one an idea of how well one is prepared, and also the pattern of the question paper.

The topics listed above are to give a general idea, do not follow the list strictly. Try to make a habit of solving aptitude problems as it will help you prepare for other subjects as well as help improve your overall IQ.

Can Jadavpur University ever be good enough to compete with the top IITs If not why?

SP
Shreya Pandey Posted On : October 4th, 2021
Studied B.E. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering,Jadavpur University (2021)

Having some friends at Jadavpur University, I can list some problems that students usually face:

  1. As Jadavpur University is a regional university, it lacks the exposure what central institutes usually attract. For the same reason, the administration is a little lazy and students enjoy too much freedom.
  2. Most of the professors are quite qualified and experienced, you can find a lot of them who aren’t up to the mark. Here, it becomes quite difficult to compete with the level of IIT and NIT professors.
  3. Students at Jadavpur are not creative and do not think out of the box. They usually like to go with the flow and simply follow the syllabus for good placement.
  4. The placement scenario of the CSE department might be at a height but sometimes, other departments suffer and couldn't get as great opportunities.
  5. The UG research quality in JU is not up to the mark. Although many students indulge in research and projects, the publication quality is not at par. They just make some small change in an algorithm and produce two/three papers but are not recognized very kindly by foreign universities.

All in all, JU needs improvements with the serious involvement of all the students, teachers, staff, alumni of JU. By tackling all the problem areas together, it can shine like IITs and NITs in the near future.

Is it possible for a student studying Mechanical Engineering at IIT Kharagpur to get placed in a decent coding company?

NG
Nikhil Goal Posted On : March 22nd, 2023
Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT KGP)

Honestly, a true coding lover needs not to worry too much about placements. They should just be good in what they do and certainly, an opportunity will come their way.

Let’s explain this through an example of a friend who was a graduate of Industrial Engineering and Management, IIT Kharagpur, and is currently in Amazon as a Software Development Engineer.

Owing to his Industrial Background, he faced backlash initially and couldn’t sit for placements in big companies like Adobe, Google, Microsoft, and Goldman Sachs. He then came across a startup company - BankBazaar that visited the campus on the 2nd day of placements and also had a coding test. He passed the test with flying Colors and

for the first offer during that placement season.

Ever since then, he started receiving calls from top companies like Amazon, Google, Walmart Labs, etc. He soon joined Amazon and worked for a few years. Recently, he got a call from Goldman Sachs HR for the Goldman Sachs, Strategic Group. This came as a surprise since this company only prefers toppers from IITs and IIMs. It was his dream job to make mathematical models and program them. Fortunately, all his interviews went pretty well and in the end, he was introduced to the Managing Director of the Finance Division, at Goldman Sachs. who conducted a discussion on the projects he would be working on.

After experiencing almost 3 years in the Software Industry, my friend only advised coding lovers to focus solely on their passions and let the world find them.

Is BITS Pilani’ zero attendance policy really true?

DH
Damini Hedge Posted On : July 3rd, 2023
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2021)

Yes, I confirmed it with a friend and it appears that the zero attendance policy at BITS Pilani is true. My friend claimed that this policy helped her in many ways. She tried attending classes initially but failed to do so as she found them to be boring and monotonous. She however attended the lab sessions and some physics classes which she found to be very intriguing.

The only disadvantage she faced was the surprise tests which she would often miss because of not attending classes. The simple solution for this is to ask one of your friends who attends classes to inform you if they feel the professor is about to conduct tests. But some professors still did not let her give these tests so she had to solely rely on her mid-semester and final exams.

Overall, she has no regrets for skipping classes as she feels she did quite well even without them and also saved a lot of time in the process.
