MBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences,New Delhi (2020)

Internship at AIIMS Delhi is considered to be one of the most prestigious and competitive internships in India. It offers an opportunity for MBBS degree holders to gain hands-on experience in various medical specialties and subspecialties. The internship program at AlIMS is known for its rigorous training and diverse patient population. However, internship at AIIMS is more relaxed in comparison to other medical colleges. In other colleges, as an intern, you will have to be on duty for the entire shift, and night shifts are also compulsory.

The posting in the major departments is very flexible with a lot of relaxation on the interns. All he is required to do is be present during the ward rounds, OPD, and sampling procedures and that's it. Sometimes, however, AIIMS Delhi interns are posted in the village for around 3 months which is a very challenging experience. There, they are required to run the PHC.

Overall, an internship at AIIMS Delhi is a beautiful learning experience with a minimal workload.

How is the internship (after MBBS) at VMMC Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 26th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

The internship scenario at VMMC is quite disappointing and tiring. The number of patients is so huge in all the departments and interns have to work more than required to get the work done. Their focus is not to learn new procedures but to complete the work and go. Here is the department-wise scenario

  • Pediatrics : In this department, interns are required to find all the case sheets(files) and reports and arrange them before the rounds begin. They are also responsible for dextrose monitoring and discharges. If you are posted in labor, you will have to ensure the baby’s safety.
  • Surgery : Here, interns are required to do sampling, dressing, and discharges. In emergency minor OT, you will have to I n D, suturing, catheterization, and such. Interns also go to OT to watch the surgeries. Postgraduate students may let you do procedures like hydrocele on minor OT days.
  • Medicine : The patient load varies from season to season. In dengue season, it’s maximum and you will always be busy doing sampling and cannulation.
  • OBC : Here you are responsible for sampling, cannulation, catheterization, and NST. You can also take deliveries in the labor room.
  • Orthopedic : During emergency days you will be busy with cast and traction. You might also have to do skeletal traction.
  • For other departments like PSM, ENT, Derma, Optha, and Casualty, the workload is comparatively less so you get a lot of free time.

Overall, through the internships, you will get confident at least in minor tasks, and gain a lot of hands-on experience.

How can an engineering student apply for summer or winter internships at top B schools like IIMs/ISB/XLRI, etc.?

NB
Nishtha Bhat Posted On : June 29th, 2021
Ph.D. from Xavier School of Management

You need to keep in mind that the internships at top B schools such as IIMs/ISB/XLRI will be strictly literary and not industrial. If you are interested in such things or your college does not have any strict criteria of doing only industrial internships, then you can definitely apply at these institutes.

Whenever you want to do an internship, start applying at least a month before the start of the internship. During the summers many professors are out of India or are on vacations or are attending some seminars, so apply as early as possible.

The process of application is as follows.

  • Search for projects or departments in the institutes which suit you and your interests.
  • Then look for the professors in your interested areas and find out their email IDs. This is simple and you can get all their details on their respective institute websites.
  • Send in your cover letters and CVs/resumes to them through e-mails. A cover letter should explain your interest, why you want to do the internship, your expectations, any prior knowledge if you have any, and other such details. CVs inform the professors about your academics, achievements, etc.
  • After sending the emails the only thing you can do is wait. You may get lots of negative responses. Some professors may even take some interviews or other tests or tasks.

You may even get a stipend which such internships.

SM
Saurav Mishra Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.A Pyschology from Banaras Hindu University (2020)

Getting in touch with the professors could be the easiest way to get an internship at IIT BHU. You can send an email to the professors with whom you want to carry on your work. All the contact details of the professors and department related personnel are available on the official site of IIT BHU. Now, mailing those profs. could be a difficult and tedious task because you may not get a reply right away. A solution for this is keep sending reminders at some intervals. Also, your statement of purpose ( SOP ) should be enthusiastic, keen, and well written. If you have any prior research experience at your college, then it would be of great help. If you know some professors personally, then the chances of getting the internship are high as well. IIT BHU also offers direct internships for summers, so just keep checking their official website.

Lastly your CGPA should be quite good and you should have good recommendations from the professors at your college.

How can we get internships at IIT Bombay?

HS
Hamza Shabir Posted On : March 13th, 2023
M.Tech in Electronic Systems, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) (Graduated 2014)

If you are a B.Tech 3rd-year student (or even in 2nd year) and you want to apply for an internship at IIT Bombay, the best way to do it is by contacting the professor. You need to follow certain steps to apply for the internship:

  • Identify the area you want to work on. Make sure you have a good interest in the area, good knowledge of what is currently happening in your area of interest, a good grade in the subject, and a decent CGPA (or percent marks).
  • Go through the website of IITB and the corresponding department. The website lists details of all the professors, their contact and the area of research. Identify the professor who is doing work in your area of interest.
  • Prepare a good resume highlighting what you have achieved in the area you want to work on. If you are in the early or middle years of B.Tech you might not have too much to highlight on. In those cases, you can mention the good grades you got in the subject you want to work on. Even a seminar or presentation that you have taken related to the area will be a plus.
  • Draft and send a mail to the professor. The mail should be catchy, crisp, and to the point. Don’t write too many and don’t write too less. Highlight what you want to do, why you want to do and what have you done so far. Attach your resume also. The professor may not reply to you for the first time. You can send a reminder mail maybe a week later. Even after sending a couple of emails if there is no reply, try calling. (Be careful here. Some professors don’t like directly calling them. You can call some of his students doing research under him and inquire. Normally his student details will also be on the website).
  • Once you come under the notice of the professor, he might or might not have a phone interview and ask you to come as an intern depending on your performance.
  • You need to get the consent of your college to do the internship at IITB. You can ask the professor about the formalities for it.

Though it seems simple to read, it will take a considerable amount of time, particularly finding a good professor. So, if you want to do an internship six months from now, you should start as soon as possible. You can always take the help of the faculties in your current B.Tech college. If there is any faculty who has direct contact with any of the professors in IITB, that will be the best way.

You can bypass all the above steps by getting a recommendation from the faculty. If you successfully complete an internship, it will make the professor happy, and he might be willing to give a recommendation letter, which is very valuable for your higher studies.

Here are some details about the CSE department of NIT Durgapur-

  • Infrastructure- NIT Durgapur has a decent infrastructure, not at par with top NITs and IITs. However, developments are constantly taking place on campus.
  • Internship facility- There aren’t many on-campus internship offers for the students of NIT Durgapur. But you may get a chance at brands like Microsoft, DE Shaw, etc. Off-campus, the NIT tag will surely help you secure a good internship. Startups seek IIT and NIT students for internships/jobs.
