SK
Shivani Khatri Posted On : January 13th, 2021
Grad Student at The Ohio State University

OSU's Computer Science department has one of the highest qualified professors in the country, so it all boils down on what you make of this program. It is well ranked and presently at #30 among US’s top CS schools. You'll get access to many fields like Networks, Big Data, NLP and no shortage of research opportunities. You'll also have no problem finding internships or jobs. You'll even have over one offer if you're good. OSU is a great university to pursue master’s in computer science from. It is one of the 14 departments in the college of engineering offering master’s and doctoral degrees. Here are some quick stats:

QS World University Rankings by subject 2020 : Computer Science and Information Systems #151 – 200
THE World University Rankings by subject 2020 : Computer Science #101 – 125
US News Best Computer Science Schools in the USA #30
Tuition and Fees (per year) Ohio Residents – $16,525 (INR 12,22,850) Non-Ohio Residents – $39,999 (INR 29,59,926)

The best thing about this program is that it provides the students to either go for a coursework degree or go for a research heavy thesis. The professors at the university have done some of the best research in the fields related to computer science, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), High Performance Computing (HPC), Big Data, Networks etc. Thus they include the graduates in their groups which is a great learning experience for the students. In addition they also may also include some practical projects relating to implementation of the topics researched. Thus the research perspectives of the students are widened while doing the MS which help them in placements. Top recruiters such as Cisco, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Facebook do hire from the campus.

So overall it is a decent school to pursue master’s in computer science with a lot of focus on research which makes the school good enough for most graduates.

What are some useful tips for students starting their first semester at Syracuse University?

AC
Albie Cladwell Posted On : April 16th, 2022
BS Chemical Engineering & Chemistry, Syracuse University

Here are some tips that can help your first semester at Syracuse University smoother.

  • Don’t commit to a major immediately. You don’t need to worry if you don’t know what you want to do. Know that almost everyone is on the same boat. Freshman year is best for experiments. Try to get good grades in those easy first-semester classes, so that you will have many options open when you are ready to make a decision.
  • Explore everything that you find interesting, but don’t try to fit in fast to avoid being alone.
  • Living with a stranger is difficult for obvious reasons. So, try to adjust and support them in little ways when you can.
  • At Syracuse, Fall stays only for a limited time. Try to be outside as much as possible in the Fall.
  • Winters are pretty bad at Syracuse. The city has the largest snowplow in the world. So prepare accordingly. Invest in the best winter boots and coats.

You can checkout Feagan for good food and beer. Their nachos and chicken salads are pretty good. Roji Tea Lounge in downtown Syracuse has the best Japanese cookies and tea.

B.S International Business, San Jose State University (2018)

Both Portland and San Jose are good in their own ways. The admission intake for both the schools takes place in the fall season. Here’s a gist of both:

San Jose State University

The university is good for majors like Engineering, Computer Science and Business. The location of the institute is in Silicon Valley where every semester a job fair is organized. Many big companies participate in this job fair and offer great opportunities which are quite helpful. Apple and Google companies have hired many SJSU students. The weather is very pleasant throughout the year, neither too hot nor too cold.

Portland State University

The institute is located in a cold, lovely and manageable little city. The people there are quite warm and friendly. The institute has been ranked #801 for engineering by Times Higher Education 2021 (international).

San Jose State University Portland State University
Tuition fee for the 1st year (international students) $ 16,283 $ 21,105

On looking at the above information about expenses, location of the city, atmosphere of the city, etc. whichever seems suitable for you, you can choose that.

FSU is widely reputed for its Entertainment, Screenwriting, and Film Production courses. Admission to these courses is fiercely competitive.

UCF was established later than FSU but it is well-known for its Engineering, Business, Hospitality, and Entertainment program. Getting into UCF is more difficult compared to FSU.

The video comprises a comparative analysis of both universities

Here is a brief comparison of both colleges.

Parameters  Florida State University  University of Central Florida
Ranking  #475 QS World University Ranking  #751-800 QS World University Ranking
