How is NIT Jamshedpur for an MTech?

TM
Tanushree Mandal Posted On : April 20th, 2021
M.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2019)

Here are some of the facts given by one of my friends who studied MTech at NIT Jamshedpur.

  • Academics are not very good and thus the pressure is also less in MTech. You should utilize your time and make the best use of it. You can study by yourself. Scoring good marks is not very tough.
  • You should try for IITs. If you don’t have any better option than NIT Jamshedpur then you should go for it.
  • NIT Jamshedpur is definitely better than some of the NITs. But there are some issues faced by students.
  1. There are still some accommodation-related issues.
  2. There is a lack of instruments in the department.
  3. Machines that are available need maintenance.
  • MTech is only best for the Computer science stream. The other branches are not up to the mark.
  • The students get to sit in most of the well-reputed companies in the placements. Internships are also provided to students. Other branches are sometimes allowed to sit with CSE in some companies.

The environment of students is good. Co-curricular and extracurricular activities are present. The batch size is small. In a nutshell, it can be stated that NIT Jamshedpur is average for MTech.

What are some of craziest stories that you have heard of NIT Jamshedpur?

TD
Tushar Dixit Posted On : April 20th, 2021
Studied at NIT Jamshedpur (2019)

Here are some of the craziest stories of NIT Jamshedpur.

  1. Prof. Akhilesh Kumar used to be the HOD of the ECE department. My friend went to his chamber for some work. He was tensed about something on his desktop and replied that he is unable to log in to his email ID as there is no option of password entering. The HOD didn’t know how to reload the page so my friend asked him if he could help. When he came near the PC, he saw that the HOD was trying to enter his email in the Google search field, not Gmail.
  2. Once there was a HOD of a department who didn’t come to class and on being asked he stated some lines of a saint that he can’t teach people who know more than him, thus making the students speechless. He although took a class in the last semester. He just took a piece of paper out of his pocket and started writing on the blackboard. He drew an incident ray getting reflected off the surface and the angle at which the ray was incident at the surface (not the perpendicular) was marked angle-i (and same for angle-r). Some students pointed out the mistake but he did not care and walked out of class with glory.

There many more such crazy stories about NIT Jamshedpur.

Which is better, NIT Jamshedpur CSE or NIT Calicut EEE?

AS
Aditi Sharma Posted On : August 23rd, 2021
M.A. Political Science, Indira Gandhi National Open University (2020)

The process of selecting a suitable branch in a decent college after the JEE counseling process is pretty hectic and important. And the ideal way of going through all this process is realizing and following your interest.

The criteria for selecting a college should be based on the following.

  • Choice of branch
  • Choice of college
  • Average placement of that branch in the college
  • Infrastructure and hostel facility
  • Distance of the college from your hometown

One of the best things at any NIT is that you will get to interact with the best brains in the country. All the faculties at NIT are well qualified.

I have a few from NIT Jamshedpur so I can give you some ideas about the institute.

Pros of NIT Jamshedpur:

  • Private rooms to almost all students from the first year itself.
  • Active student clubs such as Phoenix and many others. They perform greatly at national and international levels.
  • Almost zero ragging.
  • Very helpful seniors
  • Well qualified professors
  • Excellent placement records for CSE and other branches as well. In 2021 the average and highest CTC offered was 15 and 37 LPA respectively.
  • Huge mess facility. The food is unmatchable and amazing.
  • Huge alumni network.

Lastly, I will advise that don’t choose an institute based on ranking, as ranking tends to change frequently.

How good is NIT Jamshedpur? Why is its ranking poor?

SD
Sumona Dasgupta Posted On : April 13th, 2023
Bachelors of technology at National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur

While NIT Jamshedpur has not scored well in the ranking criteria set by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), there are several factors that make it a good choice for students. Here's what you need to know:

  • Ranking criteria: MHRD uses various parameters such as research paper publications, students to teachers ratio, infrastructure, and other factors to rank engineering colleges. Unfortunately, NIT Jamshedpur lags behind in most of these areas. However, it's important to note that rankings are not the only indicator of a good college.
  • Infrastructure: Despite its low ranking, NIT Jamshedpur is improving its infrastructure day by day. It currently has two mega hostels with a mega mess that is well-maintained. The construction of a new lecture hall complex is ongoing, and the renovation of the Computer Science and Engineering department is also underway.
  • Placement: One of the best things about NIT Jamshedpur is its placement scenario. The placement percentage is excellent, and almost every student gets placed in their final year, except for those who choose to prepare for other competitive exams such as GATE or CAT. Being situated in an industrial city like Jamshedpur, the institute has an edge over its peers in terms of placement opportunities. If you work hard during your time at NIT Jamshedpur, you can land your dream job with a good salary package.
  • Average package: The average salary package of NIT Jamshedpur graduates does not justify its low MHRD ranking. This means that even though the college has not scored well in the ranking criteria, it still produces highly skilled and employable engineers who get placed in well-reputed companies.

While NIT Jamshedpur may not have a good MHRD ranking, it still offers a lot of benefits to its students, such as improving infrastructure, excellent placement opportunities, and high salary packages. If you are ready to put in the hard work, you can make the most of the opportunities that NIT Jamshedpur has to offer and build a successful career in engineering.

How was your 1st day at NIT Jamshedpur?

VT
Vinayak Thakur Posted On : April 20th, 2021
Studied at National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur (2019)

One of my friends studied at NIT Jamshedpur. I will share his experience of his first day at college, this might give you a basic idea about the college.

  • On his admission’s day which is ten days before the commencement of class, he strolls through campus looking at computer lab conditions, which is good. All computer labs are fully air-conditioned.
  • Document verification took some time before finally getting admission into the college. Students were also helpful on campus who helped him find a Xerox shop.
  • His college day started by arriving at the campus at 11 am.
  • He was allotted a hostel while visiting there. All the hotels looked new after renovation.
  • His room has three other students sharing the room with him. Their beds were small though. Each one of them allotted their own open cupboards.
  • In the mess, there was a long line of 50 boys for food. The menu has rice, vegetables, etc. The mess food does not taste good, and he kept on complaining about it.
  • He then visited the college building, which is over 50 years old and has not renovated since. For registration, he went to the Metallurgical department and made some departmental friends.
  • His 1st day was not a good day for him, but he sure learned how to compromise, how to communicate, and how life starts outside a comfort zone.

Now he doesn’t forget his wallet, not shy away from talking with strangers, and doesn't complain about food quality.

Therefore, the first day of college may not be what one would be expected. But you will surely learn a lot of things. With time you will become responsible, good in communication, and learn how to manage yourself.

Which is better NIT Jamshedpur or NIT Bhopal?

SB
Shivani Bansal Posted On : April 9th, 2021
Studied at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal

One of my friends has graduated from NIT Bhopal and knows the ins and outs of the college. Its infrastructure, its internal politics, quality of education, mess facilities, and against all odds its successful placements record.

Apart from just this, there are other factors that make NIT Bhopal more acceptable as compared to NIT Jamshedpur.

  • NIT Bhopal will be a better choice as its reputation is higher than Jamshedpur.
  • The placements in NIT Bhopal are better than NIT Jamshedpur.
  • Faculty are experienced in both but I will say NIT Bhopal has its extremity.
  • When we talk about infrastructure NIT Bhopal again wins it here. Against the dilapidated hostels of NIT Jamshedpur is the modest, home-like, hostels of NIT Bhopal with a 24x7 power supply.
  • Moreover, the mess is the place where half of the major fun takes place.

Discussions, criticizing the teachers and the grading system, curse surprise tests all this amidst “enjoying” the mess food.
