What type of ragging occurs at AIIMS New Delhi?

SK

MBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences,New Delhi (2020)

The definition of ragging can be different for different people. Post-2014, ragging has been changed to interaction. These types of interactions exist in all colleges like NIT, IIT, or AIIMS.

But unlike most of the colleges, in AIIMS Delhi, you have the option to not participate in it. After the Supreme Court‘s order, there is no physical abuse and ragging in most of the medical colleges.

Some kind of trolling takes place on social media and if you are a regular social media person, you know that it is very common and cannot be considered as ragging. There are three types of medical colleges in India.

State Medical Colleges- In these types of colleges, ragging goes beyond interaction. For example, in Bihar, you have to salute your seniors and follow a dress code like short hair, formal dress, etc.

AFMC- It is one of the most disciplined colleges in the country. There is no ragging here. The campus is good and seniors are even better and carry out friendly interaction. You might have to call your senior’s sir/ma’am but everyone does it.

AIIMS- We all know that AIIMS Delhi is one of the most prestigious colleges in India. Situations in AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, and Jodhpur are more or less the same. There is no ragging and only interaction. Interacting with your seniors in AIIMS just means giving them your introduction for the first time in a few months. Knowing your seniors also helps you in your future as they help you in your studies especially during last-minute preparations.

It is important to keep in mind that in AIIMS Delhi, you will not be forced to do anything.

What is the preparation strategy of AIIMS Delhi?

AB

The best way is not to set any targets because when you do, you are limiting yourself to a certain extent. You may or may not achieve your target. But if you don’t set one, you can aim for the sky. AIIMS Delhi was the dream college of one of my friends who had literally no chance of making it into it. The only mantra he followed was not to expect yourself to perform to a particular or specific level, but rather give it your all. As for the preparation strategy, here is what he shared

  • Practice Assertion Reason questions: This section is often underestimated when in reality it is a major rank-determining factor.
  • Attend assertion reason questions in the beginning: Some might find it weird, but he chose to solve Assertion Reason before the exams as they required a fresh mind which would not have been possible after exams.
  • Don’t forget the negative marks:  The negative marking might affect your overall performance drastically so beware of it.
  • Always stay patient: Don't panic even if you find the question paper to be very challenging as you will forget whatever you have studied.

Hope you score well!

What are the disadvantages of studying in AIIMS Delhi, if any?

OR
Ojas Reddy Posted On : May 30th, 2023
Studies at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (2024)

A few advantages my friend who was a PG student at AIIMS experienced are

  • Minimum exposure to common diseases: AIIMS has very few common cases as it tries not to admit patients with common illnesses and focuses more on rare diseases. This causes very less exposure to common illnesses to PG students of AIIMS.
  • Less Free Hand: AIIMS is an SR-based hospital with super specialization in each branch. This leads to relatively less free hand.
  • Work pressure: The working environment of AIIMS Delhi is very tiresome and challenging.
  • Thesis: Students of AIIMS have to publish a genuine thesis as AIIMS focuses largely on research work. This can sometimes be very challenging.
  • Medical Representative culture:  AIIMS does not have the MR culture where you are treated as a royal and even are allowed to party weekly. AIIMS is very demanding and a North Indian MBBS student might feel disappointed here.

These disadvantages are based on personal opinions and are not specific to the institute. So it’s better to investigate before joining.

What is the difference between doing an MBBS in AIIMS, Delhi and doing an MBBS in any other local medical college?

PA

AIIMS is rightfully called the Harvard of the East owing to its excellence in the field of Medical education. AIIMS has a lot to offer and not every AIIMS student makes the most out of the plethora of opportunities offered. It depends on the individual and his goals.

Here are a few aspects that make AIIMS stand out amongst other medical institutes.

  • The supreme quality peer pool gives way to meaningful discussions with everyone motivating each other to grow.
  • The faculty pool is equally qualified and diverse, comprising authors of international books, leaders in research in their fields, advisors to international committees, etc
  • The overall mindset of the institute is towards striving for excellence. You are left with no option but to do your extreme best and succeed.
  • The patient inflow is also quite diverse at AIIMS and apart from textbook cases, you come across rare diseases too.
  • AIIMS has an annual grant of ?1200 crore. This means better infrastructure and excellent research opportunities for the students.
  • The approachable and experienced faculty combined with good funding aid in research opportunities right from the 1st year
  • Many AIIMS alumni work at top international universities. This is beneficial for research electives and USMLE prospects.
  • AIIMS easily fulfills the required student-faculty ratio guidelines.

With so much to offer, AIIMS is definitely worth it. Remember that it’s the hard work that counts more than anything. Many top colleges give birth to average doctors and vice versa.

AIIMS Rishikesh

AIIMS Delhi, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, and Jodhpur are considered the top 4 AIIMS. All these 2012-established AIIMS are somewhat similar in terms of infrastructure and academics. The lab facilities are more or less accustomed. These institutes have minor differences like sports and recreational activities which in reality don’t matter considering the fact that you are a medical student and everything apart from studies is secondary.

I would like to conclude by saying that the most important factor to consider while choosing an AIIMS should be the distance from your home or hometown.

Which AIIMS is better excluding AIIMS of new Delhi?

Muskan Shafi Posted On : March 30th, 2024

AIIMS Delhi is no doubt the best medical institute in India. However, given the extremely high cutoff and competition for admission to AIIMS Delhi, it is quite difficult for a student to get into AIIMS Delhi for popular courses like MBBS and B.Sc Nursing.

Apart from AIIMS Delhi, one can opt for several other AIIMS across the country which have a lesser cutoff and competition. Choosing the better AIIMS totally depends on multiple factors such as the individual preference of the student, infrastructure, location, hostels, etc.

Based on rankings, AIIMS Jodhpur is the second-best ranked AIIMS after AIIMS Delhi followed by AIIMS Bhubaneswar, AIIMS Rishikesh, AIIMS Patna, and AIIMS Bhopal. AIIMS Jodhpur has been ranked 13th in India by NIRF 2023 followed by AIIMS Bhubaneswar and AIIMS Rishikesh at 17th and 22nd positions, respectively.

AIIMS Jodhpur is one of the most developed AIIMS with an excellent infrastructure. The institute has a beautiful campus with a good patient load. It is equally popular for extra-curricular activities. AIIMS Jodhpur hostels are another big reason to choose the institute owing to the facilities provided. Similarly, AIIMS Patna, Bhubaneswar, and Bhopal are other top AIIMS for students with a very good patient load and excellent faculty. The hostel rooms are quite good with proper hygiene and comfort.

All of these AIIMS are considered the top AIIMS after AIIMS Delhi, however, the choice may vary depending on individual preferences and needs of the students.

How is AFMC better than AIIMS Delhi?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : May 30th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

While the majority of medical aspirants would prefer AIIMS over AFMC, my sister was a different breed and was adamant about AFMC. Here are a few pros she shared of AFMC that made her choose it over AIIMS.

  • The doctors here are relatively healthy and fit unlike AIIMS doctors that are always sleep-deprived
  • Because of less competition, you are assured of a PG seat.
  • The small batch results in a close-knitted family and you always have downtime to help you in your time of need.
  • The mess etiquettes here are very unique and you will end up loving the food here.
  • Every sport and hobby is promoted here through a number of clubs Name any sport or hobby.
  • Pune has been declared as the happiest city in Maharashtra in India. You get to experience the beautiful city life and Mumbai is not far away.
  • The classroom lectures are well delivered by ever-present professors.

These are some points that make AFMC unique in contrast to AIIMS.

How much prize money can I get if I got AIR 1 in the NEET, AIIMS, and JIPMER?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 21st, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

The official authorities don’t award any prize money to NEET toppers but the toppers are awarded cash prizes from their coaching institute. For instance, Allen Carrier Institute produced NEET 2022 toppers Tanishka. In the victory carnival of ALLEN, she received 21 Lakhs along with other toppers.

Additionally here is what will happen if you get AIR 1:

  • Your name will be included in the Limca Book of Records.
  • Every news channel will want to feature you making you a celebrity overnight.
  • All book brands pay for you for your testimony.
  • The coaching module's back cover will have your photos.

However, I feel one must value respect and humbleness more than the money you earn.
