XLRI placements witness international offers for HRM each year. Novartis, American Express, HUL, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Alghanim, Mondelez, etc. are some of the major recruiters that offered international profiles for HRM at XLRI, in past. Few multinational companies also give the opportunities to work in an Indian location for 2-3 years and then move to an international location.

On average, how many people attend classes at BITS Goa?

SM
Sibashis Mitra Posted On : August 5th, 2021
BITS Pilani (2018)

Some of my friends are students of BITS Goa and they were able to elaborate on the attendance scenario at the institute. It’s true that the attendance requirement at BITS is 0%. Now the average number attending classes depends on so many factors that it would be nearly impossible for any ordinary person to note down the statistics keeping in mind each and every factor.

First, let me tell you the factors that drive the students to attend or miss classes.

  • Marks: Although, it is advertised that there is 0% attendance required for a course, it nowhere states that a teacher can’t keep attendance as an evaluation component though. Some courses keep 5–10% of total marks as tutorial attendance (lecture attendance is usually never considered). And you would find probably 95–100% attendance in a tutorial when there is an announced quiz.
  • The Faculty: MY friends say that they have witnesses ninety or so students and more trying to catch a tutorial of a popular physics teacher in a crowded classroom that has a maximum capacity of 60–70 as well as 12 or 13 students attending a lecture of another faculty member in a lecture hall with the capacity of about 600. The real reason for that is the faculty teaching.
  • The Course: Any student would prefer attending a more weighted course (say with 4 credits) than to a less weighted course (say 1 credit). Because a good grade in a heavier course affects your CGPA more than a good grade in a lighter course.
  • Time of the Semester: You would usually find the highest attendance during the starting of the semester and probably at least about 10% just before the exams. Just after exams also you get fairly good attendance, probably 60 % or more.
  • Time of Classes: Students generally miss classes scheduled at odd hours.

Having said all this, it is not really wise to depend on others to decide what should be done and whatnot. Instead of that, you must be the one to decide what is right for you and what not. You might attend all classes of course X and end up with a B or B- and attend 30–40% classes of course B and end up with A or A-. It’s all relative.

I’d say, don’t attend or miss a class blindly following the masses. Attend yourself, judge yourself and then decide for yourself.

How is life at pondicherry engineering college?

NG
Nandini Gupta Posted On : July 6th, 2021
Studied at Pondicherry Engineering College

Life at Pondicherry Engineering College is quite enjoyable, mixed with a lot of emotions and activities throughout the four years.

The points below give a brief overview of life at the institute, based on the reviews of students who were once a part of the same.

  • The professors are extremely qualified and teach well. But, some of the newly recruited teachers in the institute are not that good at their job.
  • A maximum of 60% of the entire syllabus is covered by the teachers throughout the semester classes. In case of lab works, teachers are quite strict in evaluation.
  • The pattern of the exam is totally similar to the Anna University, which is a little primitive in nature. It is not very much helpful for students learning and has much less impact on logical thinking skills. Passing the theoretical exams is not at all difficult, and can be cleared through simple mugging. Practical exams are much more serious and need proper concepts.
  • The campus of PEC is very beautiful. For nature lovers, it is a perfect place to stay and walk around with a bunch of friends. For commuting inside the campus, having a cycle is necessary.
  • Students need to reach the city through crowded buses. But, the overall atmosphere of Pondicherry is enough to soothe the students.
  • The time restriction for the girl’s hostel is 8:30 PM, which is somewhat inconvenient.
  • Most of the students in the hostel are from south India, especially from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. There are few north-Indian students, who seem to be disinterested in attending classes mostly.
  • In PEC, there are all kinds of students mixed together, students who are nothing other than bullies, extremely outgoing students, and even very few outgoing students.

Life at Pondicherry Engineering College is a mixture of thousands of aspects, including fun, serious practical sessions, activities, and lovely campus.

Do northern Indian people find it difficult to adjust to the top NIT’s in the south?

Namrata Das Posted On : August 17th, 2023

North Indians may face slight issues while adjusting to the culture and language at South Indian NITs like NIT Warangal.

  • Language: There isn't much of a language problem here because most academic conversations are conducted in the English language. However, outside the college, you may find it very difficult to deal with the public, especially the drivers and shopkeepers. If you have some good South Indian friends, they will help you.
  • Food : Usually there is a separate mess for South and North Indian food. But if your college does not have this provision, you will have to adapt yourself to the south indian taste. Students are usually given basic dishes like rice, dal, vegetables, chapati, bread butter etc. with a hint of south Indian flavor in each. For a change, you can sometimes visit canteens or restaurants.
  • Culture : Here you won't be able to celebrate Diwali, Holi and Dussehra the way you do in your home state. South Indian festivals like pongal , ugadi, ganesh chaturthi, diwali, holi, saraswati pooja will be celebrated by all.
  • Crowd: South Indians are very friendly, hospitable, and honest. They respect you and your culture and expect the same from you. You will end up with many South Indian friends by the end of your college life.

It's true, North Indians have to come out of their comfort zones to adapt to the culture at NITs. but once you have adjusted yourself, you will love how diverse your friend group is and the amazing experiences they gave you.
