If you wish to go for a job after graduating from NIT Trichy, maintain a CGPA of 8.4 (and if possible, a slightly higher CGPA), and you will be in a good position at the end of your degree.
Other than academics, focus on co-curricular activities. Learn new skills and do online courses during the next two years on industry-relevant topics. Be a part of clubs and work on your leadership skills. All these initiatives will make you a desirable candidate for a good position in the corporate world.
If you wish to go for an MS abroad, work hard during the rest of the semesters at NIT Trichy and make sure to end up with an 8.7 CGPA or more at the end of 3 years (when you’ll apply for colleges). If you wish to go abroad for your higher studies, make sure to manage your time well and prioritize your studies above everything else.
If you wish to get scholarships and grants, even a 9.4 CGPA won’t be enough. Scholarships and grants such as DAAD, MITACS, SN Bose, Cargill scholarship, etc. are mostly impossible to get with a CGPA of less than 9.5 (a 9.3 or 9.4 may also not be enough).
Try to work harder and maintain a CGPA according to your future goals. Also, make the most of your time at NIT Trichy and enjoy your time in this institution.
The majority of engineering aspirants are confused between prioritizing branches and institutes. They get confused about whether to go for an average branch in well-established institutes like old IITs and NITs or a top branch in average institutes like new IITs or lower NITs.
I will suggest you go through the syllabus of the average branches once before choosing them. If you think the syllabus is intriguing and you can tolerate it for 4 years, go for it. Else go for the top branches. The first priority should be to choose CSE, IT, M&C, and ECE in the top 10 IITs or NITs. Next, you can opt for lower branches in the top 5 IITs and top 3 NITs.
Here are a few points to consider before making the final decision
So, I would suggest you go for top IITs and NITs because even if you belong to an average branch, inculcating excellent coding skills will fetch you good packages. Ultimately for me, it is Institute over branch!
The Chemical Engineering branch at NIT Trichy offers a multifaceted course and that’s what made my friend choose it. NIT Trichy has a well-organized syllabus that ensures maximum understanding of the concepts. I will be addressing the topics you mentioned in the question individually.
Schedule
Chemical Engineering students at NIT Trichy have a balanced campus life with enough time for extracurricular activities.

Placements
Overall, the chemical engineering department is a highly regarded branch and will be a great choice for those looking for an interdisciplinary course.
IIT Roorkee, NIT Trichy, and NIT Warangal are well-established institutes in India. The scope of metallurgy is comparatively lower than that of CSE. IIT Roorkee mainly concentrates on textual learning and does not give the students exposure to practical learning. They are using the practice of mugging up the lessons without having a clear understanding of the topic. The placement is very poor here; the students from the metallurgy department usually end up in data analytics and coding.
So CSE at NIT Warangal and Trichy would be a better choice.
NIT Trichy’s administration and the overall environment were quite good sometime back. However, after a few years, things have drastically gone downhill.
A new regulation on students’ attire was put into place. However, I was shocked to notice that the security guards were not strict towards the girl students who disobeyed these orders, whereas, the boy students were strictly scolded for the same disobedience and were denied entry into the main campus.
There is a curfew on the girls’ hostel timings. On the one hand, where universities and colleges are doing away with regressive rules, the NIT Trichy administration is putting more such regressive measures into place. The hike in hostel fees is not justifiable considering how students have to face a lack of drinking water, which is one of the most basic requirements of the human body.
Social media applications like Facebook and Hotstar are banned on the NIT Trichy campus. There are timings set for using the hostel wifi. The administration is not answerable to students and student welfare is being sidelined. The institution is paying attention to its infrastructure and faculty. However, the students are being treated as secondary citizens.
Thus, the main obstacle in the social life at NIT Trichy is the administration’s behavior towards the students.
The answer would be Yes. One of my friends had completed B.Tech in Instrumentation and Control Engineering from NIT Trichy. The course is definitely tough but the level of difficulty perceived may differ from person to person. And here is some of the information about the course.
Sheer multi-disciplinary nature of subjects :
Involvement in Laboratory activities :
Programming and Analytical skills :
Product design and Development :
Design specification :
These were some of the aspects that make Instrumentation and Control Engineering tough. The course is pretty involved and demanding. Though all these mentioned aspects and skills are required to be a successful Instrumentation engineer.
NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, and BITS Pilani are all good colleges for CSE. Here is a comparison among them based on various parameters-
At BITS Pilani, Tech students were offered a package between INR 11 - 38 LPA. At NIT Trichy, the highest package overall stood at INR 40 LPA for the year 2022. From these figures, one can declare that at present NIT Warangal has the best placements for CSE among the three (as per the official figures).
Overall, all three colleges are quite good for your CSE. In the end, it is you who has to put in the required effort.
It is not impossible to get into NIT Trichy or any top institution for an average student. I was an average student during school time and got a 7.6 CGPA in my 10th board examination. During my 12th boards, I worked hard and scored an astonishing 94.6%.
During my first attempt in JEE Mains, I got a 93.1 percentile. My score depressed me and I decided to prepare well for my second attempt. On my next attempt, I scored 98.120 percentile. It was a huge improvement for me.
Even though I had an OBC quota through which I got a seat at NIT Kurukshetra in an Electrical Engineering course, the point of this answer is that if I could’ve picked myself up and improved to such a great extent, even you can do so. However, I must warn you that for NIT Trichy you will have to work extremely hard.
Both institutions offer great research and placement opportunities in the CSE branch. NIT Trichy gets you an INI Tag and the hostel-life over there is great. On the other hand, the fees at Jadavpur University are incredibly low. Also, Jadavpur University allows you to experience University culture.
I personally know alumni from JU and NIT Trichy CSE and all of them are doing well in their careers. I would suggest you talk to the recently graduated alumni from both institutions to get a closer look at the present-day ground reality.
According to me, whether you choose CSE at NIT Trichy or Jadavpur University, you will not regret your choice. Also, consider other grounds like location before arriving at the final decision.
