What are the chances of a fresher to get selected in FMS, XLRI, MDI with less than 60% in 12th?

AC
Abhirup Chatterjee Posted On : September 14th, 2022
PGDM in Human Resources, Xavier School of Management

It will be difficult to get into colleges such as FMS, XLRI, and MDI with less than 60% in 12th. But it’s achievable. FMS assigns 10% weight to 10+2 scores. So, if you manage to score around the 99.5 percentile in CAT, you will have a chance of getting shortlisted. You need to perform well in the GD-PI round as well. XLRI and MDI assign 15% weight to past academics and work experience.

So, try to work on your profile by adding extra-curricular activities. Also, prepare well for entrance tests and the GD-PI round.

Have you studied in any one of these colleges: BITS Goa / NIT Warangal ?

AS
Aditya Singh Posted On : August 26th, 2021
Integrated M.Sc Physics & Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science at BITS Pilani

A senior of mine studies in BITS Goa and has completed his first year. His journey has been full of ups and downs but it is totally worth it according to him. Here is his review of the institute.

Campus Life:

Campus life is great. The weather is always pleasant and great. There are lots of sightseeing places, with sea views and beaches. The infrastructure is very good. You can visit the city after 5 pm but need permission in case you want to stay overnight.

Academics:

There is no compulsion for any classes from the institute’s side but there are few teachers who have put a 10 or a 20 percent minimum criterion for evaluation. The teachers are experienced and well known in their respective fields. Also, BITS Goa has a great library and a well-equipped computer lab.

Extracurricular:

  • There are plenty of clubs and departments related to many extracurricular activities. There is a huge variety of activities to choose from such as Robotics, Dance, Art, Music, Photography, Poetry, Drama, Graphics, and many more. There are additional departmental sponsorships like Publicity Department, Media department and etc.
  • The sports facilities are excellent and the mess food is also great when compared to other hostels.
  • The fests conducted at BITS Goa is well known in India and are considered the best fests in all of the institutes present in India.

You will definitely enjoy studying at BITS Goa.

How are placements in Thapar?

RD
Raashi Dey Posted On : August 8th, 2023
Studied at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (2019)

The placements in Thapar University are better than almost all the NITs, barring the top 4 or 5 NITs. Like the usual trend, CSE placements are the best in Thapar. For other branches, placements at Thapar and all the other Engineering colleges have suffered immensely in the past few years. This is because the PSUs formed a large chunk of recruiters for core engineering branches like Civil, Mechanical, etc, and they are now recruiting via GATE. This is a setback for Thapar University and other Engineering Colleges.

For the CSE branch, placements are really good. Even the Mechanical branch has good placements. It is a top branch at Thapar University. EIE comes third in terms of placements. The placements for Electrical and ECE are not so good. But ECE, Electrical, and the other remaining branches get plenty of offers from IT companies that are mass recruiters and offer non-core jobs to all the branches.

Choose Thapar University if money is not a concern for you as it has decent placements. However, if there are financial constraints, even an average NIT is not a bad option.

How are grades given in IIT-Madras?

TB
Tithi Banerjee Posted On : June 15th, 2023
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (2021)

At IIT Madras, the strength of the class determines the grading system. The mean and standard deviation of marks obtained are calculated.

Let X be the marks obtained by the student, in that case:

IIT Madras Grades

The top 5% of the students in the class get an S grade. For smaller classes, the professors are at a discretion regarding the grading system. They grade based on bands in most cases. For example, if a band of students scored from 81-92, and the other band scored from 95-99, the first band will get an A and the second band an S.

In case of no bands, it depends upon the concerned instructor who then decides where to draw a line between the two grades.

Is VIT Vellore better or BIT Mesra in terms of all aspects?

SS
Shridhar Sriraman Posted On : August 9th, 2023
Lives in Pondicherry, Puducherry, India

To be honest, BIT Mesra is the dream college of many while VIT Vellore is only considered a backup in case they don’t make it to the top colleges. BIT Mesra is the best private engineering college in India second only to BITS Pilani. Here are a few points that support my stance

  • A high number of students were selected for JEE Advanced.
  • Excellent infrastructure and campus facilities make the ambiance vibrant and comfortable.
  • The institute enjoys an excellent placement scenario. BIT Mesra's average package 2022 stood at INR 13.01 LPA while that at VIT Vellore stood at INR 8.19 LPA.
  • The admission to BIT Mesra is based on the merit of JEE Mains through JOSAA's counseling.
  • The institute has a record of having some of the best and most highly experienced faculty.

One of my friends had to choose between these two institutes and eventually went for BIT Mesra. He claimed that it had a better alum network, better placement records, better global recognition, and a coding culture. Now it’s up to you to make an informed decision!

How is the digital marketing program offered by MICA in association with Upgrad? How is it and how credible is it?

AS
Ankit Sinha Posted On : April 12th, 2021
IIT BHU (2019)

One of my relatives is pursuing the Digital Marketing course offered by MICA in association with Upgrad. He is a marketing professional and has an MBA in Marketing. He was looking to upskill himself in digital marketing and choose this course based on the recommendations he got from his peers.

  • According to his experience of 3 to 3.5 months in the program, it is worth the time, money, and effort. The course does take on an average of 6 hours a week. However, the course designed in a way that is quite convenient for working professionals. It is systematically broken into small videos to fit the busy schedule of working professionals.
  • There are non-graded assessments, live projects, resume building, and career mentorship programs.
  • They also provide extra reading materials as Digital Marketing is a quite vast field and you will need to keep yourself updated by reading up. They also cover the basic information that freshers need to know but hesitant to ask.
  • If you are looking for upgrading your skills in Digital marketing then Upgrad’s program is definitely a good choice. They also offer three specializations.

To know more about the course you can visit the official website of Upgrad. They do deliver what they promise.

I am Hindu. I want to pursue my postgraduate studies in CMC Vellore. But people say CMC is only for Christians. Is it so? Can a Hindu join?

PR
Prashant Ranjan Posted On : September 21st, 2023
Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore

A Hindu friend of mine completed her MS in General Surgery at CMC Vellore. Initially, everyone dissuaded her from considering CMC Vellore but she was adamant about it and finally got admission. She says she had the best experience of her life despite having experience at several top colleges. She was amazed by the dedication of the medical and non-medical staff.

Here is the seat breakdown for MBBS at CMC Vellore:

Quota

Categories

Total no. of seats

Management Quota

Open

2

Minority Network

38

Staff Quota

10

Government Seats

State Christian Minority Quota

20

Govt. Quota

30

Your religion does not matter but what matters is if you have done UG, internship, and non-PG residency at CMC and whether you are sponsored. Even some Hindus get sponsored by the local missionary hospital or CMC hospital itself and compete for sponsored seats. So being a Hindu won’t necessarily affect your chances of admission to CMC Vellore.
