Should I choose VMMC over MAMC and UCMS just because of its PG benefits?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 25th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

There are other advantages of choosing VMMC over the other two colleges, besides its internal PG quota.

First of all, Safdarjung hospital gets really good funding. In the last six years, it has built two new buildings (one Emergency and one Superspeciality). VMMC offers a decent college environment, just like other colleges. The internal PG quota is definitely a big advantage. To get internal medicine at MAMC, you’ll need around AIR 350. On the other hand, at VMMC, you’ll get it with AIR 9000.

This advantage might be diluted as more colleges get added to IPU. Regardless, you’ll be offered a great hospital, and a good college. Between MAMC and UCMS, the former has a locational advantage.

So, here is why you should choose VMMC over MAMC and UCMS.

How is NIT Jamshedpur for civil engineering in terms of placement?

MD
Monalisa Dash Posted On : March 15th, 2024

B.Tech Civil students get good placement opportunities at decent core companies at NIT Jamshedpur. A good number of non core companies also visit the department for placements.

But by ‘good’ I do not mean very high packages that you can boast of. If this is what you are looking for, you’ll be disappointed. Core branches like Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy and Civil receive decent placements. One can expect very high packages in these branches when studying at top rated institutes like the old IITs and BITS Pilani.

L&T, St.Gobain, Bridge and Roof Corp, Vedanta and ECC offer decent packages to B.Tech Civil students. Most analytics firms allow Civil students to sit for placements, and offer decent packages as well. Capgemini is among the IT firms which allow Civil students, and offer decent packages. BPCL offers comparatively high packages, but allows only top 5 students to apply. JUSCO visits every 2-3 years and offers high packages.

Last year, 97.29% students were successfully placed from B.Tech Civil during NIT Jamshedpur placements. The highest package for the branch was 20 LPA, and the average package was 9.57 LPA.

Instead of just looking at the placement stats, you should also consider your interests and the future prospects of a branch before stepping into it.

How is M.Tech in computer science at IIIT-Bangalore?

AT
Ajay Tripathi Posted On : October 10th, 2023

I completed my M.Tech CSE from IIIT Bangalore a few years back. Based on my experience, here are some pros and cons of joining this course/college-

Pros

  1. IIIT Bangalore sees a very diverse crowd. Students from various ethnic and academic backgrounds join the college each year. While some leave their jobs to pursue an M.Tech, others join right after their B.Tech. Some are very research-oriented and plan for a Ph.D. in the future.
  2. The students are very serious about academics. But they are also very supportive of each other.
  3. The seniors are very supportive and friendly. The college alumni network is very strong.
  4. The faculty for M.Tech CSE is very dedicated and helpful.
  5. The campus is neat, and Bangalore is just great for tech enthusiasts.
  6. Almost everyone is placed with a decent paycheck by the end of the course. Many students receive PPOs.

Cons

  1. The campus is small, and the college isn’t very old.
  2. The fees are quite high.
  3. IIIT Bangalore ranks below top NITs and is comparatively less popular.
  4. The administration isn’t student-friendly.
  5. Final sem students are forced to stay in the hostel if they intern anywhere in Bangalore. This is inconvenient if one’s office is far off, considering Bangalore’s traffic.
  6. The hostel curfew timings aren’t very convenient. No one is allowed outside of the campus post 10 PM.

In spite of some cons, IIIT Bangalore is a great choice for an M.Tech CSE.

Is it worth paying 13 lacs or more for a B.Tech CSE in KIIT University?

Pratyasha Posted On : July 25th, 2023

Whether a particular degree is worth the money you spend depends on a number of factors like your financial background and your future prospects. One of my relatives completed his BTech in CSE in 2012 and got a job that helped him pay back the loan within 2 years. However, this may not be the case for everyone. That being said, consider the following scenarios

  1. If you have zero financial constraints and want to live a dreamy college life, then KIIT is certainly the best place for you.
  2. If your parents have been saving money for you, save that for your Master's and do your Bachelors in IITs or NITs instead.
  3. If you have financial issues and loam is the only option, then leave that option for Master

Nevertheless, if you are adamant about joining anyways, go for CS or IT which will provide better placement opportunities than other branches.

Does anyone regret not joining BITS Pilani?

SD
Shruti Dasgupta Posted On : June 28th, 2023
Student at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

Yes, one of my friends strongly regrets giving up on BITS Pilani just because of the high fees and went for a low-ranked NIT instead and to date regrets his hasty decision. He wanted to pursue MSc in Economics from BITS Goa but he had to take civil in NIT.

He stated that the condition of core placements in NITs was pathetic and the average package was as low as 3-4 LPA. Only non-core companies visited for placements while his friends that chose BITS Goa MSc in Economics got excellent internship offers from JP Morgan Chase, Credit Suisse, etc. Moreover, the BITS Pilani dual degree places students in good IT, Analytics firms as well.

My friend's career has been set back by 3-4 years in comparison to his counterparts and it will take years to reach the salary package they are currently receiving. He now considers his last options as GATE, PSU, or MBA.
