How is the faculty at the IIT Delhi compared to that of the IIT Bombay?

A
Admin Posted On : October 7th, 2023

I have friends in both institutes and from what I have heard, the IIIT Delhi faculty is quite arrogant and has no interest in teaching. The professors at IIT Delhi were very approachable during internships and expressed their willingness to work with the students and help them find their thought processes. On the other hand, IIIT Delhi professors would mock you if you were unable to answer a particular question.

A friend shared an incident at IIT Delhi when one of the professors committed an unintentional mistake and retook his interview to apologize. Your Ph.D. depends a lot on the kind of professors you work under and I will never recommend you to do a Ph.D. under such arrogant professors

Is a branch upgradation possible from civil to CSE in MNNIT Allahabad? What are the requirements?

Sayantani Barman Posted On : November 30th, 2023

One of my friends switched from Civil to CSE at MNNIT Allahabad, a few years back. Here are some tips from his side-

  1. A 9.0+ cpi is required to switch to CSE.
  2. CSE has very limited vacancies (4-5 seats at most).
  3. Subjects like Chemistry, C Programming, etc. negatively affect the grades. Thus, very few students are able to score 9.0 cpi or above.
  4. In one of the semesters, you’ll have to study Mechanics. This subject is the best to score a high spi. The other semester contains Chemistry, and the subject faculty does not give good scores.

Basically, make a good study plan. Talk to your seniors, and strategize accordingly to score a high cpi in your first year. The rest depends upon your luck. But if everything goes well, a branch switch from Civil to CSE is totally possible at MNNIT Allahabad.

Here are some excellent book recommendations for the Neurology part

  • Harrison for neurology
  • Ganong for neurophysiology
  • Snell's neuroanatomy
  • Neurobiochemistry from Harper

B.E. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Jadavpur University (2018)

One of my friends studied at Jadavpur University. According to him, it is a really good institution and is considered among the tier-1 universities in India.

From Academics to extracurricular activities, JU is outstanding. The reason was that here you are studying engineering in the real sense .

  • The concepts, theories, etc. were simplified by the highly experienced faculty members..
  • There are a complete range of laboratories dedicated to each course.
  • Many students of NITs have also said that the teaching method in JU is really good.
  • Apart from studies, various clubs and sports facilities enhance your personality as well. They are known to provide quality education at a very reasonable amount.
  • Fee structure is really low and affordable for almost every student.

What would you advise a CS fresher at IIIT Delhi?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : October 7th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

IIIT Delhi is one of the leading institutions suffering higher studies in Computer Science in India. Students are exposed to the core subjects right from the first year which might be quite overwhelming for the freshers. IIIT Delhi has a myriad of research opportunities, internships, and the like available to first-year students but they often fail to make the most of these opportunities.

If you haven't programmed before, you'll feel lost when faced with unfamiliar terms. Follow these tips to overcome your struggles

  • Take out at least 30 minutes to 1 hour every day to write codes. Write a program different from the one you are required to make in the Intro To Programming course.
  • Dont hesitate to ask for help whenever you have a doubt or get stuck on some error. Seek the help of your instructor, TAs, seniors, and batchmates with programming experience.

If you know basic programming but are not too confident then your knowledge to your advantage and get involved with

  • Another great support structure that exists in IIIT-D i.e. its technical student clubs -
    FooBar and Byld.
  • Attend the competitions and sessions hosted by these bodies as they will teach you a lot.

If you feel lost as a CS fresher at IIIT Delhi, remember that everyone has started from the beginning and so can you!

How is the freshers' party at SVNIT?

TS
Trisha Sharma Posted On : January 9th, 2024
Studied at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat

It’s a bit different at SVNIT than most other colleges. Your studies will start from the first day itself, and no professor will mention anything about freshers’ at all.

But after the first midsems, your patience will be rewarded with the best freshers’ in the form of a two day college fest called Kashish. The plus point is that by that time (nearly two months from the start of your semester), you’ll become friends with at least some of the people at college. So you won’t feel like an unaware nobody in your own freshers’.

Kashish has a singing and a dancing night, and anyone can participate after passing some audition rounds. The day events are equally interesting for people who are passionate about tech, debate, drama, etc. It is the best time to have fun and wear informals to college. The pageant show is a good opportunity to be titled Mr. or Ms. Kashish, and come into the limelight.

So be patient, and you’ll get to enjoy a really fun and memorable freshers’ at SVNIT.

What are pros and cons of studying cse from BIT Mesra?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 16th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

BIT Mesra is a well-renowned institution and holds a great reputation for its CSE program. Here are the pros and cons of studying CSE at BIT Mesra-

Pros-

  1. BIT Mesra has good labs and other facilities. The Technology Block is dedicated mainly to CSE students.
  2. The CSE curriculum is interdisciplinary in nature. The syllabus of IITs is closely followed.
  3. Some hostels are newly constructed while some are a bit old. However, the hostel facility is fine. The mess food is average and the hostel fee is quite affordable.
  4. The faculty is good but you will have to put in extra effort from your side.
  5. You can approach your seniors for guidance and preparation tips. Almost all the CSE students are involved in online competitions and the competitiveness is quite high.
  6. During 2022, the average package for the CSE branch at BIT Mesra stood at INR 19.27 LPA, and the highest package stood at INR 58.33 LPA. Amdocs, BYJU’s, Cognizant, Wipro, Infosys, Daffodil Software, etc. visited the campus for placements.
  7. BIT Mesra has a reputation of its own which will aid you in getting a job at a well-known brand.

Cons-

  1. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the curriculum, studies become overwhelming at times. You may also end up giving less time to your CSE majors and coding.
  2. You might not be able to choose certain electives during the 7th and 8th semesters due to the lack of faculty available for the same.
  3. Semester exams are planned without any gaps in between and this can be immensely pressurizing.

BIT Mesra is a well-renowned institution and a CSE from there will definitely add value to your profile. However, if you get a CSE at DCE, BITS Pilani, Jadavpur University, or the top three NITs, go for these institutions.

Why are there so many negative answers regarding IIM Lucknow place-coms?

SN
Sanskar Nigam Posted On : January 16th, 2023
IIM C-ISI K-IIT Kgp

It's not just IIM Lucknow; all college place-coms have the same image. Every student spends his or her entire college career hoping to be hired by their dream company. They have all worked extremely hard for many years in order to obtain that prestigious position.

You have the ability to place someone while in college. This is why place-comers are always getting these comments, especially from those who were unplaced, missed their dream placement, were placed in another company while a more preferred company was still hiring, are not on good terms with the place-comers, and so on.

Furthermore, Place-comers place people in one company before moving on to place the remainder in the next. They are responsible for placing everyone/or the majority of people. Nobody notices your efforts, and you only attract hostility. Some people try to become place-comers simply because they want to have the authority to place themselves or their friends.
