What should I prefer, KJ Somaiya IT or CS from Thadomal Shahani?
There isn't much of a difference between IT and CS, forget institutes individually where you would pursue them. Both CS and IT happen to consist of more or less the same subjects and the course pattern is also similar. There are only a handful of subjects that do not match when it comes to the subject courses of CS and IT and trust me, that isn't as important as it seems.
Eventually, it is all about your choice of college. It is assumed that you have done some prior research beforehand on the institutes. A former student of this institute who I know would also suggest not giving too much importance to the branches either.
Also, special mention to KJ Somaiya as along with the benefits of autonomy, you would be able to grab better placement opportunities for yourself at reputed companies with a handsome salary package. Yes, you can do BE in an evening college in Karnataka after a diploma from NTTF. It will depend on the eligibility criteria of the specific university you are applying for. Anyway, you have two options.
- Option A – You can join any BE course normally which people do after 12th. If you have completed your 12th before you joined the diploma course at NTTF, only then this is possible.
- Option B – You can join the BE course laterally. If NTTF does provide a diploma degree is approved by the AICTE, then you can join the lateral degree program.
So choose one of the options according to the specific eligibility criteria of the institute and university.

Mining at NIT Raipur is certainly an interesting choice. The Mining branch is one of the oldest branches at the institute. It is almost 70 years old. I have a few friends at NIT Raipur and here is what they had to say about the Mining branch.
- Faculty:The faculty base is great for the branch. They are experts in the field with years of experience. Try to get along with your professors. That way you can work with them on their projects. This will give you exposure to the field and you will also be able to make industry contacts.
- Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the department is also quite good. There are laboratories for Rock Mechanics and Mining Machinery. The labs are also equipped with premium mining software.
- Placements: Placement for Mining at NIT Raipur is also quite impressive. All the mining and cement companies visit the campus for placements.
Overall, NIT Raipur is certainly a good option for Mining Engineering. You will also have the opportunity to get a 3 day-long training at Kolkata at the cost of 40,000-50,000.
Which is better: to get Biotechnology at IIT Kanpur or Mechanical Engineering at IIT Dhanbad?
First of all, IIT Kanpur does not offer Biotechnology, rather it offers Biological Sciences and Bioengineering. This is a good choice for those who don’t have any specific interests and are ready to study biology. In IIT Kanpur your CPI values much more than your branch. So don’t waste too much time deciding on one and just go for any of it.
Placements: IIT Kanpur has both core and noncore jobs in abundance. Core jobs are a bit lesser than non-core jobs with only a handful of core companies. However, the majority of recruiters offer non-core jobs for which the only requirement is a good CPI. Here, your branch does not matter and the role offered is nothing related to your branch. To a certain extent, non-core packages offered are better than core packages so most students prefer this.
Curriculum: The ocean of electives available to choose from at IIT Kanpur, makes it possible for students to explore much more than their branch. You are also eligible to do a major or minor in any other branch provided you fulfill its minimum CPI criteria. IIT Kanpur also has a branch change faculty at the end of the first year. All this flexibility makes IIT Kanpur’s curriculum a much coveted one.

Other than campus placements, many students also opt for off-campus placement through internships and other recruitment drives. Thus, the placement package depends on various factors including the student.
What is the level of placement in a mechanical branch of LNCT Bhopal? Will it be better to do mechanical engineering from it?
Mechanical Engineering is an evergreen branch and considering the placement rate of LNCT, which is 75-80%, it hardly provides any placements to the mechanical branch students. It means the mechanical branch students don't have the core placements.
In the year 2020, there were 3-4 companies that came to the campus for the core placements and took a very less number of students. Therefore, there are very few placement opportunities for a mechanical branch student in LNCT Bhopal.
There are either no core placements or else the Institute will ask students to apply for the marketing companies and get a placement in that domain.
But then, if a student is good with the skill set and has good abilities, prepare for the exams like GATE, ONGC. It will help him/her in the future.
