How is the campus life at NIT Durgapur?

RS
Raghav Saini Posted On : September 7th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology Durgapur (2022)

Like everyone else, I too was a little skeptical about NIT Durgapur during admissions. But as time passed by, I enjoyed my campus life and made numerous friends..

The campus will allow you to meet people from different backgrounds. You’ll even get in touch with some foreign students. Within a few weeks, you’ll make new friends.

There are many clubs at NIT Durgapur and you can join more than one. Some of these are- Music Club, Dance Club, Literary Circle, CCA, MNTC, Spic Macay, etc. There is no favoritism during club selections. You’ll get to know of hangout spots like NIT Duck Pond or Techno.

As far as academics is concerned, there are some exceptional teachers in every branch who will light up your passion for learning. For example, SG sir in the EE department. Academics has become stricter since course and semester structure were revised a few years back.

During your final year, placements will be the most important. Do not worry, the placement record of NIT Durgapur is good. You’ll find that most students study only a week before exams. But make sure you know your subjects well. Otherwise you’ll face problems during the placement season.

NIT Durgapur will give you freedom. But you’ll soon realize the responsibilities that accompany it. Campus life, especially hostel life, is great.

How are the classrooms and campus at ISI Kolkata? Are the classrooms air conditioned?

TV
Tejas Verma Posted On : September 4th, 2021
M.Tech Computer Science, Indian Statistical Institute (2014)

ISI Kolkata is a very good mix of the old school and modern infrastructure. There are classes that have a typical old-school vibe like a tall ceiling, fans hanging from rods, typical old wooden benches and desks, a traditional wood-lined blackboard with chalks and dusters.

There are fully air-conditioned classes, gallery-type classrooms and all other modern facilities you will ever need. The campus is lush green, close to the River Hooghly and thus cool winds blow throughout the day. There are open areas for playgrounds, ponds along with the hostels and the academic blocks.

How is life at IIT Madras for a North Indian?

MB
Megha Banerjee Posted On : March 28th, 2023
B.Tech. Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (2019)

Life at IIT Madras for a North Indian may be different from life at other colleges or universities in India, particularly for students who are from a different region of the country. However, IIT Madras is a diverse and inclusive community, and I am sure that North Indian students will find a welcoming and supportive environment there.

Additionally, IIT Madras offers a range of resources and support services to help students adjust to life on campus.

Food: Inside the campus, there are 5 South Indian messes, 3 North Indian messes, and 1 Jain mess. So food is plenty for students from every culture. However, the North Indian mess food may not be as per the taste, and thus many end up choosing South Indian which is much better.

Outside the campus, eateries are limited to South Indian food mostly except Biryani and Fast food like Domino and KFC which are in plenty.

Language: The language barrier exists only outside the campus. Inside, English and Hindi are enough to converse with peers and faculty.

Climate: The temperature and humidity are high here usually and might trouble many. But inside the campus, the greenery and tall trees block the sunlight and thus a cool climate can be observed.

IIT Madras authentically teaches University is Diversity and trust me no cultural difference will affect your amazing experience here.

My brother recently completed his graduation from IIT Roorkee and was all praise for the food served at the hostel mess.

Breakfast: The breakfast served at IIT Roorkee’s Rajendra Bhavan comprises bread, jam every day, an option between egg and butter, and any item like Paratha, Maggi, pasta, or poha depending on the menu. Occasionally, sprouts, watermelon slices, and papaya pieces are also served.

Wednesday and Sunday night special meals are served, including Paneer Butter Masala or Chilli Paneer served with Gulab Jamun or Ice cream. On occasions like Dussehra, Naan, and Paneer curry are served.

What is it like to attend Syracuse University? In terms of both class life and extracurriculars/social life.

SF
Samantha Feder Posted On : January 13th, 2021
Studied at Syracuse University

Syracuse was once a thriving city and Syracuse University was once considered a “party school”. Things have dialed down in the recent decades and though it may not be the “mad party” school, it still hosts many fraternity and sorority parties. This being a private university, charges a higher fee which translates to a uniformity, both in terms of behavior and looks, among the students attending the school. The “political correctness” being enforced today across universities, has also taken a toll on this university.

The most happening places in Syracuse happen to be Walnut Avenue and Euclid Avenue. Walnut Avenue is known for its greek life while Euclid Avenue is known for house parties. Various sporting clubs, student organizations and sometimes students themselves organize house parties which may or may not be your taste.

The loads of classes are dependent on the major you are doing. The iSchool expects lots of co-op projects in the labs which take a significant chunk of your time. The Whitman School of Business will involve a lot many individual tasks, group tasks, meetings etc. The Newhouse School of Communication students work almost single handedly in the Armory Square building. They do lots of TV, radio work and sometimes work for straight 24 hours to meet deadlines.

In terms of sports, basketball is the most widely played and followed sport here. The Carrier Dome is the mecca for basketball lovers. The Chuck’s Café, Faegan’s Pub, Lucy’s Retired Surfer Bar are some other places to hang out with friends.

And finally talking about the weather, the winter is torturous. It receives the amount of snowfall which is higher than the national average. Along with the winter, it is the chilly winds which sometimes can take a toll on your health.

So all in all, the university is full of character and you will enjoy every bit of your life here.

What was your first classroom experience at IISC Bangalore like?

SB
Saikat Banerjee Posted On : July 17th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc)

We got to sit in our classroom even before our first lecture day. During our counseling, we had an interaction with our seniors in the classroom itself.

On our second day at IISc Bangalore, we had a small discussion with the UG Deans, and then with the lab instructors.

On the first teaching day, close to 100 students were present in the Main Lecture Hall. It can occupy around 200 students and is air-conditioned. Our teacher made each of us introduce ourselves. She started the lecture with basic concepts.

The thought of studying with the brightest minds in India delighted me and my first day of attending classes at IISc Bangalore went well.

Is college life in Sastra University good?

AM
Aniket Mishra Posted On : October 30th, 2021
B.Tech Information Technology, SASTRA University, Thanjavur

I have a few friends from Sastra University. According to them, college life at Sastra is good. It offers decent academic facilities. Here are some of the things that you need to know about the institute.

  • Dress-code for boys is shirts, jeans or formal trousers. For girls, it’s Kurti or salwar.
  • Hostel rules are more lenient for boys. They can stay out until 9 PM. Girls are only allowed to stay out till 6.
  • Try to make a few friends, if you want to have a good hostel life. If you are from different states, you may feel isolated at first. But try to communicate with others, that way you can find like-minded people.

Overall, you will have good experiences at Sastra University.

How is life in IIIT Kota?

HS
Hema Singh Posted On : April 16th, 2021
Studies Aerospace engineering, IIT KGP

IIIT Kota is a recent campus. The institute offers B.Tech only in two specializations: Computer Science Engineering (CSE) and Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE).

The below-mentioned points give a wholesome picture of life in IIIT Kota.

Education:

  • The institute is similar to any other average institute. A few core teachers are decent who have been teaching for years. But most of them are young and inexperienced.
  • Only 10% of the taught topics are applicable in real jobs and the rest 90% are outdated.
  • The positive side of the curriculum is that the students are liberal to change their elective subjects by intimating the course coordinator.

Facilities:

  • The fee for B.Tech is 9.24 Lakhs. The fee is in competition with any other private institute. It is beyond any government institute.
  • Even the facilities are not parallel to the fee charged by the institute.
  • The classrooms and labs are considerate.
  • There is a lack of sports opportunities.
  • The hostel facility especially for boys is pathetic. The internet is slow, mobile networks are poor, mess food is tasteless, and bathrooms are untidy. Some students prefer shifting to flats because of the same.
  • There is no ragging and the seniors are helpful and approachable.

Placement & Internship:

  • If you are aiming for the top companies in the market then the institute is not a perfect fit for you. The institute struggles to call companies to campus. So, there is no stability in terms of placement here.
  • Even for the internships, only a few decent companies visit the campus. The highest stipend was offered at INR 1 Lakh.
  • The placement figures are:

Minimum Package

INR 3.5 LPA

Highest Package

INR 30 LPA

Branch with Maximum Placed Students

CSE

Considering the above information, one has to decide for oneself if the college is perfect for him or not.
