I have an interview scheduled at K J Somaiya. Can anybody help me on what things to prepare in detail?

KN
Kashish Nikumbh Posted On : September 6th, 2021
MBA from K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (2017)

As one of my friends also has gone through the same situation, I might be able to provide you with some tips that could be useful to you.

  • Expect nothing out of the ordinary that will catch you off guard.
  • The interview process is straightforward and very conventional.
  • There's no need to be anxious if you have good reasons for what you've written on your CV and SOP.
  • Be meticulous with your SOP and CV, as most of the questions to be raised would be sourced from what’s written in your CV and SOP.
  • Remember, your desire to do an MBA should be convenient to the panel and they must know exactly why you want to get an MBA degree.

In most cases, case-based GD is offered, therefore XAT decision-making questions can be useful during preparation. If you have any prior work experience, you should expect some questions from that section as well. Hence be prepared in that way to walk through this interview round.

What was your experience at the Faculty of Law DU? Is it worth it to study law there?

RY
Raja Yaduvanshi Posted On : October 6th, 2022
Studied Law at Campus Law Centre, Delhi University

One of my friends studied at the Faculty of Law, DU. She believes that getting admission there is one of the best things that happened to her as it has guided her career path in a lot of ways. Thus, it is worth studying there. Here is what she shares about her experience as a student:

  • It is located in the center of North Campus, just a few blocks from every illustrious DU college. The canteen, gym, library, and all other services are open, and food is subsidized.

  • The most crucial factor is your peers. At the law school, you'll discover a lovely and hard-working crowd where everyone is eager to assist you if you are struggling in any way, even during the semester exams.

  • The tea shop and chatting on any subject under the sun are a terrific way to spend an evening at the Wisdom Tree, which is always proudly standing in the courtyard of the old faculty area. The teachers and guides are decent. The syllabus and course materials are excellent, and they even offer free high-quality materials.

  • Marking is a bit difficult. The question paper standard is on par with that of the UPSC and occasionally even higher than that of the judicial services. So, in order to get into the First Division, one must work hard. It is impossible to stand apart.

The faculty is among the most qualified and experienced in the country. One of the teachers who taught IPC there recently rose to ninth place in the Bihar Judicial Services. You can imagine the difficulty and the level.

The college has produced some of the country's best judges, lawyers, and bureaucrats.

Which way is better? Joining XLRI Jamshedpur this year or taking CAT next year again and try for IIM A,B, C?

SG
Siddarth Ghose Posted On : March 23rd, 2023
lived in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India

My uncle has been in the industry for 11 years and he gave me a very useful piece of advice regarding CAT and admissions.

If you are not working currently then you should definitely join XLRI. This is because you will be risking an entire year on the pretext of getting a call from an IIM which itself is not very easy. You will be wasting a year and will have not gained any experience at all.

However, if you are currently working, you can't risk another year because the least that will happen is you will not end up getting selected for IIM. On the brighter side, you will gain an additional year of experience which will in turn make your CV stronger. So basically you won’t be losing much.

During the interview process at NITIE, they will judge you on the basis of your personality and technical knowledge. They will ask you questions related to your final year project, academic favorites, and your field of engineering.

The process can last for a few minutes to even 1 hour, with students securing placements in both cases. For getting into NITIE, just prepare hard on these questions:

  1. Tell me about yourself
  2. What are your academic achievements?
  3. Why do you want to pursue MBA?
  4. Explain your Final-year project (Add managerial aspects to your contributions at the project)
  5. Which other calls? Why did you choose NITIE?

Be smart while preparing for an Interview and have an in-depth knowledge of your domain. Pick one favorite subject and talk about it in the beginning.

For CSE, KLU is better. The department has a great faculty base. KLU follows a well-designed curriculum. Students do real-time projects as a part of their coursework. KL University placements are great for CSE. According to 2022 placement highlights the average CTC offered was INR 9.7 LPA. While the highest CTC offered was INR 55 LPA. Is IIIT Guwahati good?

DS
Dheeraj Sengupta Posted On : March 20th, 2021
B.Tech Computer Science, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati (2020)

One of my closest friends is a student of IIIT Guwahati. Through him, I got to know about the institute. Discussed below is a brief overview of the institute.

Infrastructure:

  • The classes have shifted to a new campus for some time now.
  • The institute has a fully functional administrative block. Which is also used as a lecture hall, and is air-conditioned, and has proper Wi-Fi connectivity. Only, the ECE labs have faulty AC.
  • Freshers are provided with double sharing rooms with attached bathrooms. After the first year, boys and girls are given single rooms.
  • Faculty of IIIT Guwahati get apartments inside the campus.
  • The library of IIIT Guwahati is not at all satisfactory. There are books mostly related to course subjects only. Even the overall collection of books is quite less in number.

Food:

  • There is no cafeteria inside the new campus. There is a place for coffee and snacks in the administrative block.
  • Hostel mess is not at all decent and takes a lot of time in serving food. The catering service providing food, namely South Coast Catering Service, has not improved with time.

Sports:

  • There is no separate gym or sports complex inside the campus. A temporary field and volleyball court are there for students.
  • The boys’ hostel has TT table and carrom boards, but none such facilities are present in the girls’ hostel.

Campus Activities:

  • The cultural-fest Yuvaan is improving with time and with the growth of student-base and funds.
  • There is an E-cell that organizes entrepreneurial meets, on a large scale with a huge budget of around 15 crores.
  • There are several clubs for dance, movie, music, quiz, literary, and coding inside the campus.

Faculty:

  • The department of CSE, ECE, and mathematics have professors who are Ph.D. from IITs, IISc, ISI, and other top universities. HSS department has PhDs from DU, JNU, and IITs.
  • There is no separate set of science faculty, so those subjects are taught by IIT Guwahati science professors.

Curriculum:

  • The curriculum is excellent and is entirely industry-need-based, mainly focused on research.
  • There are changes in the course every year depending upon the present needs. Students are allowed to make suggestions in modification.

Connectivity:

The campus is situated 4 km away from Guwahati airport and 25 km away from the city center. There are weekly bus shuttles, provided by IIIT Guwahati.

Overall, the points above provide a brief scenario about IIIT Guwahati and the conditions of every aspect related to the institute. A student who is a CSE or ECE aspirant can consider IIIT Guwahati as a good choice.

What is the actual average salary for NMIMS Mumbai? Is it really worthwhile to do an MBA from NMIMS, considering the huge fees and inflated placement reports?

RM
Rohan Mitra Posted On : January 18th, 2022
studied at SVKM's NMIMS (2019)

One of my friends got into NMIMS through NMAT. According to him, it was not the most sorted choice as their rankings and placement reports are inflated.

  • They show an average package of 16 LPA being offered to 550 students but it is impossible to get that.
  • Usually students receive a 12-13 LPA for core subjects and 9-10 LPA for HR.
  • NMIMS is a popular brand, thus the brand name attracts lots of students in Hyderabad and Bangalore campus. But they are not good enough as generally promoted.
  • IMT, NMIMS, SIBM, XIMB were once one of the top private B-schools . But their standards have degraded recently. Only MDI managed to maintain and move forward.
  • No other B-school increased fees like NMIMS. Its fees are more than XLRI and IIM A, B and C.
  • The building at NMIMS is also not great, according to the fees that they charge.
  • No other college charges its candidates for conducting CDPI or GDPI. Whereas NMIMS students have to pay 1000 rupees.
  • After the release of the results, students have to pay fees of about 9 lakhs in just 1 week.

Spending a huge amount for MBA education is not a great idea. People might consider it an investment, but you have to make an informed decision by also considering the ROI. Therefore, if you are an outstation student consider other colleges than NMIMS.

Which is a better management course, PGDIE from NITIE Mumbai or Masters of Management from IISC Bangalore?

AS
Anupama Srivastava Posted On : August 18th, 2021
Studied Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering at National Institute of Industrial Engineering (2019)

Having to know some people from both these institutes, I can say that both have the sand management course but still, there's a lot of difference between the mindset of the two.

  • The curriculum remains the same but the change comes in the teaching method.
  • IISc, as usual, has a research-oriented way of teaching.
  • Whereas NITIE focuses more on the logical and decision-making skills from the managerial point of view.
  • Both are different in the placement domain as there's a marginal difference between the average packages.
  • Also, IISc is a tier 2 college unlike NITIE.
Categories PGDIE at NITIE Mumbai MMS at IISc Bangalore
Course Fee 14.63 lakh 3.18 lakh
Highest CTC 28 LPA 26 LPA
Average CTC 15 LPA 12-18 LPA
Recruiting Companies Wipro, ZS Associates, IBM, HP, etc. Infosys, Cognizant, Dell, TCS, etc.

So ultimately it is your decision to choose between these two colleges. Assess every criteria before finalizing one. As this will shape your career further.
