I am an alumnus of JIPMER. Here are the details on the hostel and mess facilities at JIPMER.
Most hostels are located in the hostel complex. The male UG students get rooms in Osler House, Lister House or Intern's Boys Hostel. The Intern’s Boys Hostel is newly built and has better rooms.
Each hostel has a study room, a recreational room, and good wifi facilities. The Intern’s Boys hostel has good and spacious rooms. The hostel rooms are two seater rooms. The Intern’s Boys Hostel has attached washrooms, but Osler and Lister have common washrooms. Each hostel room has a balcony. There is a parking space behind the hostels.
There are two major messes on campus. The Common Mess offers both North and South Indian meals. Additional food items are available at cheap prices. The common mess operates till late night.
Harvey Mess serves South Indian meals only. They serve delicious chicken items that are available at cheap prices. Some external kitchens also offer mess service for students. Other than messes, the canteens (EMS Cafeteria and Lister Canteen) offer good meals at affordable prices. The food served at each of the messes and canteens is of good quality.
JIPMER offers good hostel and mess facilities overall.
VIT Pune used to have one of the best hostels in Pune. But for some policy decisions, they had to let go of the hostel. The new student accommodation is decent but it is further away from the college around 2.5 km.
Rather it will be better to rent an apartment closer to the college. It will save you both time and money.
The hostel facilities provided in NIT Trichy are excellent. There are many hostels in this college but the best hostel for the students is the Diamond hostel.
There are some other hostels too inside the NIT Trichy campus which are as follows.
Before choosing a room, do check out the wifi speed personally as slow wifi speed can be very frustrating and it consumes a lot of time while accessing the internet.
The best thing about the hostel, according to students, is the bond that develops among batchmates. There are 16 hostel blocks, one executive residential block, and one executive accommodation at the Management Development Centre at IIMB (MDC).
All students are provided with on-campus housing in well-appointed single rooms in the hostels.
Standard amenities include 24-hour Internet access, fully automatic washing machines, a music room, and a recreation room. There are also laundry and ironing services available. The hostels also have an intercom system that is linked to the institute's intercom. It also has a student-run library, music club, and store.
Each room has a bed and mattress, a table and chair, a whiteboard with a clipboard, an almirah, tube lights, fans, and bookshelves. There is a mess on the campus where there are arrangements for the night canteen, managed by students. It also has a coffee shop, an Amul shop, two food outlets, and a restaurant. Food can also be ordered online and delivered within an hour to the hostel.
The IIMB campus is so fascinating that you won't want to spend time outside. Nonetheless, there are two malls within a three-kilometer radius. Students go there to watch movies or shop.
Here are some of the information from an ex-student of NIET and a good friend of mine about the girl’s hostel.
Overall the hostel experience will be average. You can opt for the college hostel in first year to make some friends, and move out later in 2nd year.
Hostel J at Thapar University is amazing. It offers all the necessary facilities. It is well equipped, and surrounded by greenery. Its mess offers better food than all the other hostels. Even the night mess offers good food. The rooms of Hostel J are airy and large in size. Infrastructure-wise, everyone at Thapar finds the Hostel J building quite attractive. Plus, it offers a good gym facility.
These are some reasons why Hostel J is one of the top hostel complexes of Thapar University, and probably even India.
IIT Delhi has stopped providing on-campus hostel facilities to PG MTech students specially bound mainly due to the shortage of Hostel rooms inside the campus. Earlier they used to provide off-campus hostels that were in pathetic conditions. But starting from 2020, they have even stopped providing these off-campus hostels and students are expected to arrange for their accommodation.
The students have to go to the hostel inside the campus for mess food and have to roam around without any permanent on-campus residence. Moreover, so much distance between their off campus residence and the college wastes a lot of time and they can hardly spare time for doing additional things like studying for an entrance exam.
New hostels are being built to accommodate MTech students and hopefully, in the coming future you might see better hostel facilities for PG students.
IIT Palakkad provides a comfortable living experience for its students. With campuses in both Ahalia and Nila, the institute boasts fully residential facilities, including separate hostels for girls and boys, each designed to cater to the diverse needs and preferences of its student community.

Living at IIT Palakkad is not just about academics; it's about having a well-rounded and enjoyable college experience.
MNNIT Allhabad has two girls hostels. Students of B.Tech lives in Kamla Nehru Girla Hostel. The hostel is located in the colony area outside the Saraswati gate.
MNNIT hostels for girls are two-seater. Although the rooms aren’t very spacious, after a while you will get used to them. The washrooms are hygienic and cleaned regularly.
The mess food isn’t too bad. They offer 4 meals - breakfast, lunch, evening snacks, and dinner.
There is no wifi, but each room has LAN connection. Usually, there is one LAN port, so you will have to share it with your roommate.
The hostels are safe. There are security guards present at all times. The in-time for first-year girls is 8:30 pm while for second year onwards, the in-time is 9:30 pm. Extensions are given during fests.
Other than the inconvenience of a few lizards and insects, the hostel facilities are pretty good.
IIT Delhi has both old as well as new hostels and obviously the new ones have better facilities and infrastructure. The new hostels are Girnar and Udaigiri and have spacious rooms and have 8 floors each with a total of 400 rooms in each hostel. These hostels have a big crowd which means a bigger hostel family to interact with during events. The mess facilities are also considerably better and bigger than old hostels.
The old hostel buildings have only 3-4 floors with smaller rooms and less facilities. But these hostels have a nostalgia associated with many toppers who are successful people today. This spirit keeps the ambiance of these old hostels lively.
Honestly, I wouldn’t say one hostel is better than the other. Every hostel has its unique aspects and cannot be compared.
As for the choice of hostels, no, you cannot choose your hostel. It is allotted to you randomly at the time of admission, every hostel having a mixed bag of students. You cannot change your hostel unless it’s a serious issue.
