How good is the integrated circuits and systems M.Tech programme at IIT Madras?

AS
Anamika Sinha Posted On : March 29th, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

If you are considering pursuing an M.Tech program in India, the Integrated Circuits and Systems (ICS) group at IIT Madras is an excellent choice. This program is considered to be the best M.Tech program in India and is even better than M.Tech from IISC or any other old IITs. Here are some reasons why:

  • Tie-ups with industries like Texas Instruments: The ICS group has tie-ups with various industries, including Texas Instruments, which provides students with the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects.
  • High possibility of getting placed in Texas Instruments: Due to the tie-up with Texas Instruments, the chances of getting placed in this company with a salary of at least 16+ LPA are much higher if you build your concepts to a greater depth.
  • Impressive publication record: You can refer to the ICS group's website to see the kind of papers they have published. This indicates that the faculty are actively engaged in research and are contributing to the field.
  • High-quality teaching: The ICS group has uploaded videos of their courses on their website, which you can watch to get an idea of how well they teach.
  • Excellent placement record: IIT Madras has the best placement record, especially for Analog design engineer positions. This means that if you complete the M.Tech program from ICS, you are likely to have excellent job prospects.

Of course, studying at IIT Madras is not easy, and you will have to work hard to survive. However, the effort will be worth it, as your knowledge will be much higher than graduates from other IITs. It is essential to note that exceptions exist.

In conclusion, if you get the opportunity to study at IITM's ICS group, it is strongly recommended that you take it. Not taking advantage of this chance may lead to regret later on.

Do IIT Guwahati organise spot round for M.Tech admissions?

NT
Nived Tripathi Posted On : May 3rd, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG)

No, the Department of Mechanical Engineering generally does not organize any spot admission for postgraduate courses. The first list is released after the initial counseling. The further lists are released depending on the seats available till that time. This procedure is repeated until the 4th list is released wherein the newly selected candidates have to take admission on the first day of registration, and classes start subsequently.

Occasionally, a change of specialization is allowed even after the commencement of classes although there is no provision for spot admission. However, sometimes instead of publishing the 4th list, the Department may go for Spot Admission to the waitlisted candidates. This once happened in 2015. It all depends on the vacancy and nothing is fixed.

Spot admission takes place in IIT Hyderabad and IIT Madras although there is no guarantee of any particular choice of streams even department.

What is the scope after doing Quality, Reliability and Operations Research [M. Tech. (QROR)] from ISI Kolkata?

SH
Sreeparna Hazra Posted On : September 21st, 2021
Studied at Indian Statistical Institute (2017)

Well, I would if you are worried about job prospects and all stuff although being in ISI Kolkata then shed off your worry. Trust me; you will get a job with an average CTC matching with top B-Schools in India. Job roles such as Business Analyst/Data Scientist and many others will be offered to you.

Now let me help you more in understanding this. Let’s break this into two parts – Job vs. Higher Studies.

  • Pursuing Ph.D./Higher Studies is a tough deal if you're applying abroad.
  • My personal perspective, in this case, will be, go for a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering domain.
  • That's the best option, as it will be aligned with QROR.
  • Now, you should definitely rethink before applying for the courses like Data Science/ Machine Learning domain, or Statistics.
  • For this, I would suggest you consider doing some projects. And if you are at the Indian Statistical Institute you will get a plethora of opportunities.

So first and foremost, just be crystal clear with your future endeavors before joining any course. Once you decide, opt for the best but don’t rush. Just give your best thought and calculate all the pros and cons.

Should I opt for IIIT Delhi or MNNIT Allahabad for a CSE M.Tech?

RM
Raj Mukherjee Posted On : April 30th, 2021
Lives in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India

The Alumni network is the most important factor of placement statistics and MNNIT Allahabad has one of the best alumni networks.

Delhi provides you with nightlife whereas Allahabad does not. Allahabad is not a metropolitan city like Delhi. If you want these two things, MNNIT is not for you. But it will definitely provide you with great learning opportunities. You can enjoy yourself a lot with your friends, more than you expect. Hence, it does not become less enjoyable just because it lacks nightlife and the tag of a metropolitan city.

Particulars

MNNIT Allahabad

IIIT Delhi

Highest Package

29.16 LPA

36 LPA

Average Package

11.8 LPA

16.29 LPA

Transportation matters a lot when it comes to placement drive. HR of reputed MNCs don’t have enough time to travel via road or train for recruitment purposes. Despite not having an airport before, MNNIT Allahabad has managed to keep its placement statistics outstanding.

For CSE the most popular choices among students are as follows.

  1. IIIT Hyderabad
  2. NIT Trichy
  3. NIT Warangal
  4. MNNIT Allahabad
  5. IIIT Allahabad

So, CSE from MNNIT is one of the best. You can definitely consider it as a valid option.

How good are the placements for M.tech in VLSI at VNIT Nagpur?

PK
Pallavi Kapoor Posted On : November 18th, 2023
Information Technology (IT) at VNIT Nagpur (2019)

I was an M.Tech VLSI student at VNIT Nagpur. I had a bitter experience regarding the academics and placements.

At VNIT, M.Tech students are under immense pressure to conduct research. The faculty pushes the students to pursue a Phd. On top of that, one doesn’t even get the necessary lab facilities from the college. The VLSI faculty is not supportive at all, and the entire experience is filled with torture. None of the course subjects are industry relevant.

VNIT wants its M.Techs to pursue research. This is why the campus does not receive any companies for M.Tech placements. Getting placed off campus is very difficult as companies prefer students from communication branches. Also, unlike communication students, the VLSI students aren’t permitted to go for internships. This further lessens the chances of getting a job offer.

It is especially difficult to get placed off campus, given that a single position has around 200 applicants. Moreover, the NIT tag does nothing to get oneself a job. This year, only 2 students from the entire VLSI batch got placed. The others received offers from service based companies for a package of 5–6 LPA, and with a 3 year bond, of 7–8 LPA.

Overall, the placement scenario for M.Tech VLSI is not good at all, maybe the poorest out of all NITs. I won’t recommend VNIT Nagpur for an M.Tech in VLSI.

What are the placement opportunities after earning Master from IIT Bombay in civil engineering?

AB
Advaith Bhaskar Posted On : March 18th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (2000–present)

IIT Bombay Civil Engineering branch is well known for its programs like Master, Dual Degrees, and BTech. Candidates with good profiles have a wide range of opportunities. BTech students are preferred for Non-core jobs whereas MTech students are preferred for MTech students.

Some jobs offered to students belonging to the Civil Engineering branch at IIT Bombay are

  1. Structural Designer: Top companies like Dar Al, Walter P Moore, and Thornton Tomasetti offer this role. Around 1 to 4 students are hired for such roles by each company. The most important criteria are CPI and your proficiency in software.
  2. Site Engineer: These roles are offered by companies like SP group, and LnT Look. You are tested usually on the basics of civil engineering and your ability to give long-term commitment.
  3. Management Trainee: Many civil companies offer management profiles also. Students with extracurricular backgrounds with reasonable academics are usually preferred for such roles. Some companies from the Middle East also offer such profiles.
  4. Teaching: In the last few years many private universities hire Masters's students directly for Assistant Professor posts. They are required to start their Ph.D. in less than a year.
  5. Other Sub branches: Companies for water resources, Geo-tech, and Surveying offer very few roles. A few companies such as Dar Al open these profiles too.
  6. Non-Core Companies: Companies in the fields of investments, analytics, Banking, etc either don't open for M.Tech students or are not short-listed for interview.

100% placement at IIT Bombay is just a myth and you have to work hard to secure a job.

What are placement opportunities for students pursuing an M.Tech in mechanical engineering from IISC, Bangalore?

MT
Mayank Trivedi Posted On : July 14th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc)

Well honestly, once you are in the grasp of the IISc magic, you will forget about placements, and your hunger for higher studies and research will grow instead. The intense workload and the dynamic research environment will bring you close to some of the geniuses who may be pursuing a Ph.D., UG, or master's. Interacting with them will make you realize that higher studies are a better option. Some who go for jobs anyway, come back to get a PhD sometime later. This is what the IISc effect is after all.

As for the IISC placements for MTech Mechanical Engineering, students receive a minimum of 8 LPA packages with no limit on top packages varying from 15-25 LPA CTC. The major recruiters include companies like TATA motors, TATA steel, TCS research, Mahindra motors, Philips, Airbus, General Electric, Rolls Royce, TATA advanced system, PTC, L&T, and other design, manufacturing, and petroleum companies. The best part is that students of this branch can sit for placements in companies of Aerospace, Civil, Chemical, and Material Engineering as well.

In all placements at IISc won't be an issue for either branch yet I will say again, judging a research-oriented institute like IISc on the basis of placements is not justified.

What is the difference between M.Tech (CSE) and M.Tech (AI) at IISc Bangalore?

Amanda Marie Jacob Posted On : July 14th, 2023

There are many points of difference between IISc MTech CSE and MTech AI. Some of them have been listed below

  • M.Tech CSE is the flagship M.Tech program from CSA whereas the M.Tech AI program is a new program that has been recently introduced by the EECS division.
  • There is a huge difference in the curriculum of both programs. Although both programs require 64 credits, the breakdown is different. For MTech CSE the department core requires a minimum of 24 credits comprising at least 8 credits each from Pool A, Pool B, and Pool C There is a project too. The remaining credits are for electives. The M.Tech AI course on the other hand has 19 credits from pool A subjects, 12 credits from pool B subjects, and 12 credits from electives. Additionally, there is a 21-credit project where one can work on interdisciplinary cutting-edge problems on AI.
  • M.Tech CSE admissions are done on the basis of GATE CS scores while the cut-off for M.Tech AI is decided by the applications from CS, EE, and ECE disciplines.

It's natural for a CSE B.Tech student who isn't certain of specializing in theory, systems, or AI, to go for an M.Tech (CSE). The curriculum is flexible and you can even choose electives or work on AI projects. But if you are certain o your inclination towards AI then M.Tech (AI) is an excellent choice.
