Which is better, IIT Dhanbad mining or NIT Surathkal CSE?

ZA
Zeeshan Ahmad Posted On : November 15th, 2022
Works at Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad

IIT Dhanbad faces little competition from other colleges in mining, making it the best mining campus in the country, but the branch itself is very challenging, and the career prospects are very different from what you might be thinking of after graduation.

NIT Surathkal is very comparable to IIT Dhanbad and CSE and will open many doors for you and provide better placement opportunities. You should not choose mining over CSE at NIT Surathkal unless you have a genuine interest in mining or a background in mining.

CSE from IITBBSR (2020)

NITK CSE department was established in 1986. Students of the department have worked with high-end computing facilities. The Department is also involved in various research activities. IIT Bhubaneswar ECE department which is a part of the Electrical Engineering Department. The first batch of ECE of IIT Bhubaneswar graduates this year so there is no past placement record but the other branches from the School of Electrical Sciences hold good placement rate and the same is expected to be followed for ECE. In the year 2019, a placement percentage of 86% was recorded for EE and the placement rate for CSE was 100%. Recruiting companies like TATA Steel, TATA Advance System, Microsoft, Amazon, etc. offered students with an average salary package of 11 lakhs per annum in 2019. Which is better, IIT Bhubaneswar for mechanical or NIT Surathkal for ECE?

KA
Kritika Agarwal Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied at Krishna Institute of Engineering and Technology, Ghaziabad (2020)

As your choice of course is different, it’s hard to select between IIT Bhubaneswar and NIT Surathkal.

According to the NIRF 2019, IIT Bhubaneswar is ranked at 26, which is a good rank considering it’s a new IIT. The Mechanical Engineering department is quite good at IIT Bhubaneswar. According to the 2019 placement record, 83% students got job offers from Mechanical Engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar. Many famous companies such as Amazon, H Jindal Stainless Ltd, KEC International, KIIT, Rao Edusolutions, TATA steel, TATA Advance System, Thermax, TETCOS, TESCO, UHG, and other companies as well recruited students last year.

NIT Surathkal is a well-reputed name in Indian Engineering institutions. According to NIRF Ranking, it ranks at 22 nationally among engineering institutes in India. ECE in this NIT is even better as compared to a few IITs. The placement records of 2018-19 show that 97% of placement offers were received by students in this department. The average placement offer was 12-13 LPA.

Both IIT Bhubaneswar for Mechanical and NIT Surathkal for ECE are good choices with their own advantages. So, choose wisely according to your convenience.
