IIITDM, Kancheepuram on the other hand, offers 13 programs across Engineering, Design, and Science and is most popular for its program in Computer Science and Engineering.

The factors based on which we can draw a comparison of the two colleges are as given:

  • Ranking: IIITM, Gwalior has been ranked at 81 by the NIRF in 2020 whereas IIITDM, Kancheepuram is ranked at 181 by NIRF.
  • Courses: Considering IIITM, Gwalior only had its first batch of Computer Science Engineering students in the year 2017, it is advisable for students to look at IIITDM, Kancheepuram for programs pertaining to CSE- which has been well-structured and more detailed across the years. Also, for students who are looking at programs to do with design, manufacturing or research can opt IIITDM, Kancheepuram considering IIITM, Gwalior is not a research-oriented college.
  • Placements: Both colleges offer good placement services but IIITM, Gwalior sees a higher number of companies as part of their placement drives. CSE has been introduced to IIITM Gwalior in 2017, and the first batch of CSE will pass out in 2021. Which makes it evident that there is no CSE pass-out batch to date. The placement scenario of CSE is expected to be as good as IT, if not better.

The table below gives a brief overview of the CSE branch of the institute.

Some key highlights about the placement of IIITM Gwalior, especially for the IT branch, are listed below.

  • The IT branch has a great placement record. The average CTC for MTech IT at the institute is 11 LPA. In 2019 the highest CTC offered for the branch was 40 LPA.
  • For the 2018 pass out the average CTC offered for the branch was 9.5 LPA.
  • The placement is expected to be good for CSE since the batch strength is small. The batch strength also offers good inter batch interaction and peer learning.
  • The institute is reputed among students with good infrastructure and a lush green campus.
  • All the faculty members at the institute have PhDs.

To conclude, the CSE branch shares the same facilities and infrastructure as the 5-year IPG course in IT, which would lead to an equal grade placement as expected.

How is MTech in VLSI in ABV-IIITM, Gwalior regarding its placement and faculty? How much stipend do they provide to an MTech student?

TJ
Tanya Jain Posted On : September 15th, 2020
M.Tech VLSI Design, Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior

The MTech in VLSI program at ABV-IIITM, Gwalior is a two-year program with specializations in Advanced Networks, Digital Communication, and Information Security. The annual median salary across students is noted to be 5.8 LPA in 2019.

  • The faculty at ABV-IIITM, Gwalior for the MTech VLSI program are professionals in the field who come from a background of academic expertise and are well-versed with VLSI methods and processes.
  • They are known to educate and train students to be acute professionals and use their knowledge to create practical solutions in the corporate world.
  • Students that participate in the college’s placement drive will have the opportunity to interact with VLSI specialized companies like AMD and Altera. A
  • Although it is important to note that the majority of companies that appear during the recruitment season are usually from the software sector and therefore there is a higher chance of not getting an opportunity to work at a core VLSI based firm.
  • Some recruiting companies at IIITM, Gwalior for VLSI are Snapdeal, Samsung, TCS, Amazon, Adobe, Myntra, Practo, Reliance, Cisco, Alcatel, and Google.

The stipend paid varies according to the company but as per the MHRD norms it amounts to Rs 8000. Some students have also received a stipend of Rs 12,400 as per AICTE norms. So it would be ideal to conclude that the stipend ranges from anywhere between Rs 8000 to Rs 12,400.

Students are required to perform intensive research about the type of companies that they are looking to work with, considering IIITM, Gwalior offers limited placements to students from the VLSI sector. The total fees for the course amount to 4.23 lacs whereas students are required to clear the GATE exams in order to be eligible for admissions.

What would be the best option between VJTI (Bombay) CS & IIITM Gwalior IT + an MBA/MTech?

Supriya Sarkar Posted On : September 15th, 2020

VJTI Bombay is one of the oldest institutes in Mumbai. It offers a number of courses and has a legacy of highly placed and reputed alumni. Their course structure has undergone many transformations in recent years and they have also adopted the latest technology for IT and CS courses.

  • The B.Tech course at VJTI can be considered a well-reputed course as they receive hundreds of applications every year.
  • They are an autonomous college and allow students to take up interdisciplinary courses, irrespective of their graduation specialization.
  • VJTI allows students to take up more research and experience-based projects to add to their portfolio value and the overall student experience is motivating and challenging for students to achieve new heights in their careers.

The integrated course at IIITM Gwalior has two formats: B.Tech + MBA and B.Tech + M.Tech.

  • Students can choose their specialization of whether to do an MBA or M.Tech in their 3rd year.
  • Their course structure at IIITM Gwalior is famous among engineering colleges and their placement rates are very high.
  • IIITM has one of the best research faculties and integrated program students are mostly taken up by P.hD level professors.
  • Pursuing an integrated degree allows students to save one entire year of Master’s education which they can then use to increase their productivity in the job market or prepare for further competitive exams.
  • One potential drawback could be that an integrated program does not grant you a specific specialization. Students are only awarded an M.Tech degree. However, this factor does not affect placements and dual degree alumni get the same placement offers as mainstream master’s degree students do.
  • The student-faculty ratio in the dual degree program is also high which allows students to get personalized attention by the best research faculty on the campus.

Analyzing comparatively, VJTI has a century-old legacy to offer with hundreds of students either going for placements or mostly, further education. IIITM Gwalior is not so famous but does provide placement assurance and modern technological facilities. It completely depends on the student on what kind of career are they looking for and what kind of degree do they want to pursue.

Should I go for the ABV-IIITM Gwalior CS branch if my JEE rank is 8965, or is there any better option available at this rank?

AP
Aishwarya Patel Posted On : February 23rd, 2021
ABV IIITM

Arriving from an IT background, my cousin has had certain suggestions regarding the spot counseling offered at ABV-IIITM Gwalior.

At this rank, NIT Kurukshetra or IIITM Gwalior would definitely be considered as the best fit, if you're planning for CS. The tips given below may help you in choosing the right option.

Coding Culture:

IIITM Gwalior has a far better coding culture as compared to NIT Kurukshetra. This information can be confirmed from Spoj, Codechef, Topcoder and more similar platforms. The only NIT which is popularly known to have a better coding culture than this is NIT Allahabad. Other choices, which will probably fulfill your requirement are BIT Meshra, IIIT Allahabad.

Placements in IT/CS:

  • You can get a decent package of 12 LPA, for CS and IT branches in NIT, Kurukshetra. On the other side, it is 11.5 LPA for IIITM Gwalior on average. Although, the first CS batch of IIIT Gwalior will pass out in the year 2022.
  • The top recruiters of the students passing from ABV IIITM are among top companies, like Amazon, Directi, Belzabar, Samsung, TCS, Paytm.

Curriculum:

  • Computer Science Engineering at NIT Kurukshetra is basically hardware-oriented, giving a better grasp on complex non-conventional problems.
  • At IIITM Gwalior, CSE and IT is mainly programming oriented, thus building softwares from scratch becomes a hand in trade for the students there.

Going by the factors mentioned above, it is safe to say that IIITM Gwalior will be a better choice for CS.

How would you review ABV-IIITM, Gwalior?

AM
Anurag Mishra Posted On : May 31st, 2022
Dual degree (Btech+Mtech) from Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior

IIITM Gwalior is a reputed technological institute with decent placement record. The placements are especially good for CS/IT branches. Students from non-IT branches also get placements in IT companies. IIITM Gwalior placements concluded with an average CTC of INR 16.85 LPA. Google, Dell, Mathworks, Samsung, and Amazon were the major recruiting participants in the placement drive.

Academics are pretty good at the institute. It has an excellent faculty pool. Most of the faculty members have completed their PhDs. IIITM G has an active coding culture on campus. Seniors teach the nitty-gritty of coding through the coding club - AASF club.  There are regular program contests and quizzes.

If in ABV-IIITM, not every one is coding, then what are other people doing and targeting for?

GY
Gaurav Yadav Posted On : January 25th, 2021
Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior (2019)

One of my friends who was a student of AB IIITM has described his journey throughout the course. Following are the points highlighted below.

  • In the 1st year, very few students have an idea of what is to be done. Students pursuing IT mostly have no prior knowledge of the stream and no one guided them throughout.
  • Students usually spent most of their useful time playing games like CS, watching movies, casual group discussions, etc.
  • After the 1st year, most students don’t attend classes with the perception that classes are of no use, and good marks can be easily achieved.
  • The actual impact starts in the 3rd year. Serious, hard-working candidates go for internships. Seeing them, average students either start coding and the others start preparation for government jobs (those who think coding is not their cup of tea).
  • There is a problem among students that they underestimate themselves in the beginning. Some of them set their target towards only selective companies like TCS, Infosys, etc, which have an easy process of selection. This is a big mistake, in which students assume that companies like Microsoft and Samsung are meant only for a specific set of students. Eventually, students having such an assumption don’t work hard and prepare only for certain companies selectively.
  • Some of these students, having such wrong perceptions fail to achieve their goal due to this lack of proper guidance and understanding.

Preparing for two years is enough for you to get a decent job, and no difficult coding skill is mandatory. Preparation can be taken in any domain. At the same time, enjoying college life is extremely important because it is generally the end of the glorious student life, and is to be missed afterward. So, do not set your goal low, and try to enjoy your college years.

Is It at IIEST Shibpur or IIIT Gwalior better?

DK
Deepak Kumar Posted On : February 26th, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2020)

IIEST Shibpur is one of the oldest institutes in India, which is mentored even prior to establishing the first IIT in this country. It is an institute with different feelings rather and a respected institute in India.

The infrastructural facilities and the IT department itself are excellent, and the most important thing is that Microsoft recruits from this institute. Besides, you will receive a good internship opportunity and the placement percentage is also satisfactory. One student even made an internship opportunity in Google, California. If it is compared with CSE, then IT is somewhat behind, as a student from the CSE background gets higher CTCs. But IT has diversity, which is also good.

Additionally, IT in IIEST is one of the branches in which students can face a bitter rivalry, although the student’s quality of this branch is outstanding (far better than the CSE in most cases). The faculties of IT are also excellent like the CSE department.

The placement of both of these institutes is also very good. The main difference is seen in the academic curriculum, which is negligible in most cases.

Particulars

IIEST Shibpur

IIIT Gwalior

Highest Salary

39 LPA

42 LPA

Offers Received

511

102

1st year Fees

1.36 Lakhs

1.08 Lakhs

If the student considers IIIT Gwalior, then it can be mentioned that it is undoubtedly a good college, but it is quite behind in most cases if it is compared with IIEST in recent days.

Thus, the student should try for IIEST; if they get a chance, they must go for it without thinking of any other options.
