What should be my preference between NIT Kurukshetra IT branch and NIT Jalandhar CSE branch?

UR
Udeshya Raj Posted On : December 7th, 2022
B.Tech in Production and Industrial Engineering & Data Analytics, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar ( NITJ ) (Graduated 2019)

My friend is an NIT Kurukshetra from the IT branch pass out. Now in her final year, she is relieved that she chose this over NIT Jalandhar.

The curriculum is almost the same at both places and equally good too. So it’s the other aspects that set NIT Kurukshetra apart from NIT Jalandhar. Let’s discuss these aspects below:

  • The curriculum at NIT Kurukshetra has been updated and more industry-related courses have been added.

  • Both the NITs offer amazing placement opportunities but NIT Kurukshetra does have an upper hand. Big firms like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Flipkart visit the campus for recruitment.

  • NIT Kurukshetra offers full-semester internships (4-6 months) whereas NIT Jalandhar offers summer internships (2 months).

  • NIT Kurukshetra renders a better environment for the comprehensive development of its students.

  • Based on NIRF, NIT Kurukshetra is ranked better than NIT Jalandhar.

So choose NIT Jalandhar only if it is your hometown or matches your location. Else, NIT Kurukshetra is the better option.

Does a backlog affect placements in NIT Jalandhar?

AS
Arvin Sethi Posted On : December 8th, 2022
B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar ( NITJ ) (Graduated 2018)

Whether a backlog affects placements in NIT Jalandhar or not varies from company to company. These are various circumstances of backlogs and their consequences:

  1. No current backlogs: this means you had a backlog in previous years that has already been cleared. In this case, most companies allow you to sit for placements.

  2. Current backlog: This means you have a backlog in the current semester. Most companies don’t let you sit for placements but some ask you to clear your backlog and then join.

  3. Backlog after placement: If you get a backlog in a subject after the placement, then you will have to clear it before joining. In case you have more than one backlog and are unable to clear it, you will end up losing your job.

So it’s better you focus on your CGPA, especially in the last semester. We know that prevention is better than cure. Rather than losing your job, it’s better you work hard on your grades.

Which is best for computer science among NIT Durgapur, NIT Jalandhar and NIT Jamshedpur?

PP
Pritish Poswal Posted On : December 6th, 2022
h from Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IITRPR) (Expected 2023)

NIT Durgapur is way ahead of NIT Jalandhar and NIT Jamshedpur in so many aspects. I have listed these factors below and drawn a general comparison between the three NITs.

  1. Competitive programming culture: The competitive programming culture is better at NIT Durgapur than at other NITs and the rankings in SPOJ prove it.

  2. Open source culture: The Open Source culture at NIT Durgapur is way better than any other NITs and even many IITs. The number of students in GSOC is also more than in other institutes.

  3. Infrastructure: NIT Jalandhar lacks the most when it comes to infrastructure. NIT Durgapur and NIT Jamshedpur are still comparable.

  4. Research culture: Both NIT Jalandhar and Jamshedpur are very stagnant in this area. Whereas in NIT Durgapur, professors and students take initiative in research projects. Also, foreign internships are considered here. It has collaboration with CERN Geneva and 6 students are sent every year for summers in Switzerland.

  5. Faculty: Leaving Jalandhar, both the NITs have a good faculty base and quality teaching.

The order is - NIT Durgapur>NIT Jamshedpur>NIT Jalandhar

What is the first day like at NIT Jalandhar?

AS
Aaditya Sharma Posted On : December 6th, 2022
B.Tech in Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IITRPR) (Expected 2023

My sister is an NIT Jalandhar pass out and when asked, she narrated her experience of her first day at the institute.

The classes were scheduled to start at 8 am so everyone was almost awake by 6 am. They waited for their chance to take showers. Then they left the hostel for their classes.

The rules for the first-year students were pretty strict during the initial months. Students were just allowed to go back and forth between their hostels and classes. They could not explore the campus at all initially. So they had no idea where their class was located. The students were given the timetable of the classes. Each subject had a specific code. After a little struggle, they found their classes and attended their first lecture at NIT Jalandhar. The labs were easy to find as many roommates were in the same batch.

I'm getting a seat at NIT Jalandhar in production engineering. What is the scope of the branch in India? Which master's should I choose: an MBA or an MTech?

HC
Harshita Ch Posted On : December 7th, 2022
Btech from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar ( NITJ ) (Graduated 2019)

Scope of Industrial and Production Engineering is good at NIT Jalandhar. But you will be offered less salary in comparison to Mechanical Engineering.

But if you go for a non-core job, the salaries offered might be above average.

Between M.Tech and MBA, I will recommend you go for MBA. This is because M.Tech placements are very low and very little scope is there.

Choosing MBA will get you the following benefits:

  • Better salary than M.Tech.

  • The curriculum for IPE is easier so you can also prepare for CAT alongside

  • The faculty is extremely supportive

  • The syllabus of IPE and MBA is somewhat similar so it becomes easy for you

People choose M.Tech thinking its a bit similar to IPE. But in reality IPE has a practical and managerial subjects whereas M.Tech has more technical subjects. So don’t get confused and just go for IPE.

What should I take, mechanical engineering at NIT Jalandhar or electrical at PEC Chandigarh?

RV
Rishabh Vatsa Posted On : December 8th, 2022
Research Scholar at National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (2015–present)

The choice of course depends on your own interests. But as far as the college is concerned, I recommend you go for PEC. It’s way better than NIT Jalandhar. Some advantages PEC enjoys over NIT Jalandhar are

  • Better placement and packages ( Highest CTC in PEC- INR 46 LPA whereas in NIT Jalandhar INR 43.5 LPA).

  • Better exposure through seminars

  • Location-wise PEC has better connectivity as NIT Jalandhar is situated on the outskirts.

  • If you are planning to prepare for GATE, then coaching and competition are better in Chandigarh than in Jalandhar.

So choose the course of your choice but go for PEC rather than NIT Jalandhar.

What are the recommended books for the B.Tech first year students in NIT Jalandhar?

US
Ubaid Sabri Posted On : December 8th, 2022
Studied at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar ( NITJ )

Some books I’d highly recommend to first-year B.Tech. students at NIT Jalandhar are:

  • For basic electrical - Fundamentals of electric circuits, Kothari.

  • Millman or Boylestad or NN Bhargava (basic electronics

  • Amit Lal's videos on youtube are enough for Management principles

  • B.S. Grewal (Mathematics)

  • Let us C (Computer Programming).

  • Manas Patnaik videos are enough for engineering graphics

  • You will receive a pdf from your professor for Manufacture process

  • general knowledge is enough, no need to study Environmental ethics

  • Schwam series and data structures with C for Data Structures.

These books along with self-study and class notes will be more than enough for a B.Tech. student in the first year.

Is mechanical and electronics in NIT Jalandhar as good as CS in the same college?

S
Sagardeep Posted On : December 19th, 2022
Studied at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar ( NITJ )

Mechanical in NIT Jalandhar:

4-5 senior faculty members are excellent. Every ad-hock is very poor and useful in any way. Undergraduate research opportunities are limited, but you can participate in mechanical teams and learn a lot at international-level competitions and race events, or you can start your own. Self-knowledge is the only source of knowledge. If you want, you can get the most out of your knowledge and experience by leaving here. In terms of numbers, placement is excellent. For a long time, the campus has been dominated by PSUs and automobile companies. This includes excellent companies involved in the core design, the power sector, and the energy sector. They don't go there very often, but the overall placement is excellent.

CSE: Students have good grades and get good jobs as a result of the market boom. Some students are very good learners who work hard for their studies and knowledge, but this type of student is between the ages of 8 and 10. The remaining 80 people dance, sing, and participate in other activities.

ECE: Faculty members are friendly and helpful. Students are exceptional. Placements are good, and some students study the entire CSE curriculum to get the job. If you want to come here, you must choose with your mind, consider all aspects, and think wisely.

Should I opt for a minor degree in CSE or IT? I am an ECE major student at NIT Jalandhar.

AS
Abhineet Aryan Sharan Posted On : December 8th, 2022
Works at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur (IIITDMJ)

Every opportunity has its pros and cons both. Similarly, opting for a minor degree in CSE being an ECE major at NIT Jalandhar is both beneficial and difficult. It will increase your academic load. It may or may not help you get better placements.

My personal suggestion would be to give up on a minor degree in CSE and rather pursue additional courses like

  • Machine Learning/Networking(CCNA)

  • Cloud Computing(GCP/AWS)

  • Competitive Coding

These skills will add value to your CV and pay you back tenfold rather than the CSE minor degree.
