New Delhi: The government of West Bengal (WB) has launched an online platform to streamline the application procedure for undergraduate (UG) programmes.
"A candidate can now apply for admission based on his or her performance in higher secondary or other plus-two-level board exams," said Bratya Basu, West Bengal's education minister.

According to the minister, a student can also specify his preferred college in his application, and his request would be considered. "We will leave the option to the respective institutions," Basu said when asked if the universities would be offering online exams this time, given that a segment of students have long advocated for it. They are self-sufficient. We're not going to get involved."
"However, we are in Favour of exam system transparency." Basu, who described the death of singer KK following a live performance at a college fest as "sad and regrettable," said schools and universities will have to notify the higher education administration of all plans and arrangements before holding any fest or musical soiree in the future.

Basu went on to say that the state administration was in favour of launching elections for college student unions, which had been on hold for nearly three years owing to COVID-19.
One of the vice chancellors who attended the conference later stated that he and his colleagues from other universities conveyed to the minister our preparedness to implement the new system for UG programme admissions. By the end of this week, our executive body will have ratified the decision, he stated.
