New Delhi: Uttarakhand became the first state in India to initiate the process of implementing the Centre’s New Education Policy, (NEP 2020) at pre-primary level to strengthen the education system.

The state CM Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated ‘Bal Vatikas’ at Anganwadi Kendras across the state as the first step towards adopting NEP 2020 at pre-primary level

The ‘Bal Vatikas’ will operate at a total of 4,457 Anganwadi Kendras in the state, which will be equivalent to the nursery classes at a private school.

Speaking during the inaugural occasion, CM Dhami said the adoption of the NEP 2020 marks the commencement of culture-based education in India, which will primarily focus on the overall personality development of the young students.

The NEP 2020 will lay the foundation of a strong and bright future of youngsters in the country, he said.

Laying the foundation stone of an NCERT building, CM Dhami said that all the projects for which the foundation stones are being laid will be completed within his tenure and no projects will be left incomplete. The state government will ensure that all the projects are completed successfully.

Further, he spoke about his promise which he made ahead of the state assembly polls held earlier this year, that is the high priority accorded by his government to initiate the process of drafting a Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

With an approval to the proposal in the very first cabinet meeting, the state government has already formed a committee led by retired SC judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, to devise a draft of the UCC which will be executed after taking all stakeholders into confidence, he said.

He added that his government is taking all the necessary efforts to make his government take necessary steps to make Uttarakhand one of the leading states in India by 2025. It is the silver jubilee anniversary celebration of its formation.

Within 2025, all the departments have been directed to make at least two exemplary achievements which are not just good for the state but will set an example for other states to follow, he said.

During the inaugural event, State Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat said the NEP 2020 aims to restore the Macaulay system of education which had been followed in ancient India for decades.

The Macaulay education system offers children an opportunity to pursue choice-based education, which will enable them to study the subjects of their choice in their preferred language, he said.

Rawat concluded by saying that the New Education Policy (NEP 2020) will be fully implemented in Uttarakhand by 2030.
