In order to meet the state's healthcare needs, the medical education department is essential in the development of medical and paramedical staff.

Creating and maintaining well-equipped teaching institutions, which serve as the top referral hubs for outlying hospitals, is another responsibility of the department. The department of medical education also engages in research.

Further, the directorate works with a number of medical, dental, and paramedical colleges in Uttar Pradesh to facilitate comprehensive medical and dental education. On the other hand, it also offers patients access to traditional medical facilities.
