Unipune Mountaineering Course 2021: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) alias Unipune has recently launched India's first-ever first Diploma in Mountaineering course on the auspicious day of Vijayadashami, on October 15, 2021.
With the launch of PU Mountaineering Course 2021, Unipune (Pune University) is now preparing to start the first batch of the year-long program with over 45 students from October 18, 2021, on the campus ground.
Diploma in Mountaineering course will be offered by Unipune and Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in collaboration with Guardian Giripremi Institute of Mountaineering (GGIM). The initiative has marked the beginning of including adventure education under the academic curriculum.

Referring to the initiative of SPPU, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nitin Karmalkar said, ‘’We at SPPU are expanding our boundaries by bringing mountaineering as a part of the curriculum for the first time in the country".
The newly launched Diploma in Mountaineering Course of Savitribai Phule Pune University will come out to be as one of the USP courses which will offer a learning experience to interested students, he further added. This course has been designed as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
PU Mountaineering Course 2021 will include a 24-day training session at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering at Uttarkashi in the month of March, along with hands-on experience in the field throughout the program commencement.
Pune University Admission 2021
As per the PU Mountaineering Course 2021 notice, the theoretical classes for the same will be held through online means due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, while the practical sessions will be organized at Sahyadri and in the Himalayas for all registered students.
While talking about the potential of the course, NIM Principal Col Amit Bisht, Principal, Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) said, “A year-long diploma course is a perfect bridge that connects passion to the profession”.
“Team GGIM and SPPU have emphasized all the important aspects of mountaineering and adventure that a course should consist of. The Himalayan training leg of the course will be conducted at NIM and participants will get the best training in the Himalayas" he further added.
As of now, the university has received a total of 132 applications for its Diploma in Mountaineering Course 2021, out of which 45 students have been selected for the same based on merit.
Earlier, in October, the Savitribai Phule Pune University released a Unipune Certificate Program 2021 in Spoken Sanskrit for all interested candidates. The program will be offered to students in both online and offline mode.
The program was launched under a signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Shri Sadguru group. The collaboration between the parties was done to encourage students towards the Sanskrit language, and practice the language in their communication.
