Rolling out the curriculum at the event, UGC Chairman Kumar stated that the goal of the curriculum is to develop more responsible, receptive, and informed digital citizens who would successfully support a robust ecosystem and posture for cyber security.

Kumar added that the subject matter experts will be invited to give lectures, practicals, and tutorials for these courses at the UG and PG levels in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), including those with expertise in cyber security, computers, and IT.

The proposed syllabus will offer broad guidelines, and teachers who would teach the subject will have enough flexibility to balance time vis-a-vis depth of coverage.

According to the UGC, the students should be taught the foundation of cyber security and the threat landscape to equip them with technical knowledge and skills to implement and monitor cyber security mechanisms to protect information technology assets.

Upon successful completion of the degree program, the students will be able to understand the cyber security threat landscape and develop a deeper understanding and familiarity with various types of cyber attacks, cyber crimes, vulnerabilities and remedies.

Kumar concluded by saying that the UGC has been making sustained efforts towards creating cyber security awareness amongst Higher Educational Institutes (HEIs).

In order to combat cybercrime and promote cyber hygiene, Deepak Virmani, Deputy Secretary, Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (14C), Ministry of Home Affairs, and his team delivered a presentation.

Some of the topics that were covered in the presentation were Cyber hygiene, protecting digital personal finances, responsible social media use, anticipated future cyberattacks, email security, mobile and internet security, and computer security. This was followed by an engaging question-and-answer session with the participants.

The ceremony was attended by prominent Vice chancellors, principals, faculty members and students from HEIs across the country.
