UGC Issues Guidelines for Students Seeking Admission in ODL Programmes

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission, UGC has issued guidelines for students who want to apply for admission to Open Distance Learning, ODL programme. The accreditation of the higher education institution and forbidden courses are just a few of these advisory rules.

The commission has provided advice for students to remember when enrolling in ODL programmes in light of the UGC's most recent modification, which brought degrees earned through ODL's online programme on par with degrees earned through the traditional method.

According to these regulations, UGC has urged students to confirm that the commission has authorised the status of the HEI they seek to apply for. Students must review the list of institutions that the UGC has barred and added to the commission's "no admission category."

Additionally, the UGC has encouraged students to ensure they are not registering for a course that is not permitted to be taken in an online or ODL format.

ODL mode is not permitted for courses in engineering, medicine, physiotherapy, pharmacy, hotel management, horticulture, nursing, law, agriculture, catering technology, aircraft maintenance, visual arts, or sports.

Additionally, to increase enrollment, the commission has forbidden state, central, private, and recognised universities from delivering ODL programmes through franchising agreements.

Additionally, students have been urged to ensure that the minimum course length, nomenclature, qualification, and other requirements for ODL programmes follow the commission's standards and conditions.
