UGC Invites Feedback on Draft Guidelines for International Students' Admissions


New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all stakeholders to submit their comments and suggestions on draft guidelines framed for admission process of international students in Indian universities under the National Education Policy 2020.

As per UGC, the NEP 2020 aims to attract foreign students to pursue higher education in India. In a public announcement, UGC stated that the recommendations & suggestions can be sent to the commission at policyfeedbackugc@gmail.com till September 5, 2022.

With the goal of facilitating the internationalisation of Indian higher education institutions, the UGC has framed the rules for the admission process and the establishment of supernumerary seats for international students. 

UGC informs that the purpose of the rules was to enable a smooth and straightforward admission process, and create a favourable environment for international students in Indian HEIs. It further aims to make India a preferred destination for international students.

UGC Chairman, Jagadesh Kumar recently announced that UGC will add 25% admission seats for international students to undergraduate and graduate programs in all institutes. He also informed that there would be an entrance test for admission to these programs.

Meanwhile, the commission has started the registration process for UGC scholarship schemes in online mode for students who wish to pursue their higher education in sessions 2022-23. Interested candidates can submit their registrations at scholarships.gov.in. 

The registration window is open for Ishan Uday Special Scholarship for North Eastern Region, PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child, PG Scholarship for University Rank Holders, and PG Scholarship for SC, ST Students Pursuing Professional Courses. 

Candidates satisfying the required eligibility criteria can submit their applications for the above-mentioned scholarship schemes offered by UGC by sending the registration form on the official portal of Government of India on or before the given deadline: October 31, 2022.
