New Delhi: UGC has announced a list of new UG and PG degree programmes in a variety of fields, ranging from engineering/technology to medicine and surgery and sports.

UGC has approved new degree programmes in Bachelor of Fashion Technology, Master of Fashion Technology, Bachelor of Sports Management, Masters of Sports Management, and Bachelor of Sowa-Rigpa Medicine and Surgery.

According to the higher education authorities, any degree that is not named in the notification and subsequent amendments would be considered unrecognised.

UGC’s official notification stated, "Kindly find attached the Gazette of India notification dated October 14, 2021 and March 3, 2022 (English and Hindi)regarding the specification of new degrees/duration of some degrees under section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956, for your information and necessary action. It may be ensured that the nomenclature, leading to the award of degrees fall in line with these degrees specified by the Commission."

UGC New UG & PG Courses: List

A total of nine new degrees in engineering, technology, management, science, and design have been specified. These new degree programmes are listed below:

UGC New UG & PG Courses: Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidtates willing to pursue any of the new bachelor’s degree introduced by UGC need to have 10+2 from a recognised board or university.
  • For enrolling into a masters programme a bachelors degree is mandatory.

Meanwhile, the UGC has declared that the Master of Computer Applications (MCA) degree duration would be reduced from three to two years, while the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) course duration will be extended from four to four and a half years.

Recently, the UGC recommended students interested in studying at Chinese universities to be aware of travel restrictions before enrolling.

The official notification by the UGC reads,”Any prospective student needs to be aware that the Government of People’s Republic of China has imposed strict travel restrictions in the wake of COVID-19 and suspended all visas since November 2020". 

Meanwhile, Chinese officials have stated that classes will be held online. The UGC warned that without prior clearance, the AICTE does not accept degree courses done online.
