UGC Extends MPhil, PhD Thesis Submission Deadline for Six Months; Check Details

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has once again extended the deadline for the submission of the thesis for the M.Phil, PhD graduates beyond June 30, 2022.

UGC has permitted the universities and colleges to grant six months extension to M.Phil and PhD students to submit their thesis. The extension has been granted in view of the study time lost due to Covid-19.

According to the latest UGC notice regarding extension of deadline for submission of thesis for terminal M.Phil/ Ph.D students and in continuation of UGC public notice dated December 1, 2021, it has been decided to give six months extension.

The UGC Notice stated that keeping in view the larger interest of the research scholars, the commission has decided to grant an extension of up to six months, beyond June 30, 2022, may be given to the students by their respective Higher Educational institutions, on a case-to-case basis.

The Research Advisory Committee has to make the decision based on the review of the student's work and on the suggestions of the supervisor and the Head of the Department of each individual case.

The UGC notice revealed that the extension might also be granted for submitting evidence of publication and presentation in two Conferences. However, tenure of fellowship will remain up to five years only.

Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the UGC has been permitting extensions for thesis submission as the students were not able to complete their PhD or MPhil, nor were able to present their papers at any conference.

Recently, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has reached out to almost 500 foreign universities across the US, UK, Europe and East Asia to increase collaborations between Indian and foreign universities.
