UGC: Central University Students Can Pursue Two Courses Simultaneously from New Academic Year

New Delhi: As per the latest updates, students of central universities can now pursue two courses simultaneously from the new academic year. This option will be offered to students under the National Education Policy (NEP) of the Union Grants Commission.

Informing about this initiative, UGC has informed that students who are pursuing their education from central universities will have the option to complete one course in regular mode and another one through online distance learning mode.

In addition to this, students will be required to complete the mandatory internship program under the regular program. The proposal to offer two courses simultaneously to central university students was created by the Department of Higher Education, UGC.

According to UGC Chairman, Prof. M Jagdish Kumar, students will be able to develop their skills and learn about market requirements through this internship. They can work with organisations to develop an internship program.

Students who are pursuing bachelor's or master's programs will have a lot of courses to choose from. More courses at diploma and certificate level need to be launched so that students can have more options, he further added.

Additionally, students will be required to work on community outreach after completing their projects. Admission to these UG courses at central universities will be done on the basis of marks secured by candidates in the Common University Admission Exam (CUET).

Besides central universities, over 60 state and private universities will offer undergraduate course admission seats to eligible students based on marks secured in CUET. Candidates can now register for the entrance exam through the official website at cuet.samarth.ac.in.

Informing about the CUET, the official website reads, "The Common University Entrance Test (CUET (UG) - 2023) is being introduced for admission into all UG Programmes in all Central Universities for the academic session 2023-24 under the Ministry of Education, (MoE)”.

“The exam will provide a common platform and equal opportunities to candidates across the country, especially those from rural and other remote areas and help establish better connections with the Universities”, it further added.
