New Delhi: Admission to undergraduate programmes in the state of Odisha may get postponed this year due to the Plus II board exams being held significantly later than usual.

Though the state government is attempting to normalise the processes of conducting classes, admission, examinations, and result publication, it will take time for the entire cycle to return to the pre-Covid academic calendar timetable.
A teacher of a degree college in Odisha stated, “It is likely that this year’s UG admission process may get delayed. The ongoing Plus II exams will end on May 31. Then evaluation process will be conducted before publication of results. After that passed out candidates can apply for the UG courses. This entire process is going to be very lengthy this year”.
In 2019, while the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) held Plus II examinations between March 7 and 30, classes for UG or Plus III first-year courses commenced on August 8, 2019.
Though the state government is yet to decide on a date for the release of Plus II exam results, students are unlikely to get their scores or marks for at least two months. According to a higher education department official, UG admission is totally dependent on the schedule of publication of Plus II results.
“Following the publication of results, the application process will begin and several rounds of allotment, including spot rounds, will take place,” the teacher added.
Meanwhile, CUCET has become mandatory for admission to undergraduate courses in central universities from this year. As per NEP 2020, this entrance test will focus more on aptitude than academics. Likewise, admission processes are expected to undergo changes as the entrance test will be conducted for all central universities. The NTA will conduct this entrance test, as per UGC guidelines.
