TERii Kurukshetra Collaborates with Great-Learning for Online Classes, a Key Step Towards Blended Learning

The Covid-19 outbreak has profoundly impacted the Education field. As a result, the whole mode of learning has been switched from offline to online learning.

While the advent of the internet and mobile computing was already speeding up the adoption of online learning. The pandemic has made this a need of the hour as suddenly all learning is done online as physical campuses are shut down across the country and the world.

During the lockdown, school and colleges completed the last session of education using platforms like Zoom, Google-Meet and WebeX.

However, after the use of these platforms, the shortcomings were discovered. Few challenges that emerged while using these online platforms may be categorized as under:

  • How are students engaged during the live (synchronous) session and attendance captured?
  • How much of asynchronous content is to be used and best practices to follow while creating?
  •  How are proctored exams to be conducted and how to prevent cheating and plagiarism?
  •  How hundreds of classes can be scheduled, conducted in parallel and recordings shared easily?
  • How to track students’ progress when they are remote on projects and group activities?
  •  How to encourage peer interaction and provide spaces for collaboration?
  • How to maintain class discipline when students are not physically present?

Educators are looking for an easy to implement online tool to overcome these challenges in order to create a high-quality student learning experience.

Faculty Development for Teaching Effectively Online

A solution for effective online teaching should not only provide the technology for the above-mentioned tasks, but it should also provide resources for faculty to learn about the best practices for creating great outcomes.

To achieve the comprehensive outcome, TERii has collaborated with an upcoming LMS named Great Learning.

Great Learning has put together an excellent resource for faculty members to learn how to teach effectively online on Great Learning Academy

One of the key factors of Great Learning is that the faculty members who are new to online teaching can get tips from experts, read articles on best practices and even get a certificate of completion once they finish the course.

Limitations with an Incoherent Approach to Using Technology

It is evident that Emails, collaborative documents, video conferencing software etc, are not enough for a high-quality student learning experience online.

As these facilities do not automate administrative tasks such as communicating class schedules, conducting live classes, scheduling assessments, evaluating and recording grades, tracking attendance and cannot be used for several other necessary student engagement activities and essential tasks such as proctored exams.
