New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has officially opened the eight recently established state government medical colleges in Telangana today, November 15, 2022.

The medical institutions has been unveiled online from Pragathi Bhavan, Rao's official residence, according to a press statement from his office. Up to 1,150 first-year medical students will start their studies in the eight institutions located in the towns of Sangareddy, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Jagtiyal, Vanaparthi, Kothagudem, Nagarkurnool, and Ramagundam starting tomorrow.
Telangana Today reported that the colleges were built at a cost of Rs 4,080 crore and that they will increase the number of MBBS seats available in Telangana by 1,150. Recently, admissions to these colleges came to an end. Up till 2014, Telangana only had three government medical schools.
"This year, admissions will begin for 8 new medical institutions, adding 1200 seats. Over 2,200 medical seats will be available starting this year, including the 1067 additional MBBS seats through an 85 percent reservation in B category medical seats in private medical colleges. Telangana's chief minister, K Chandrashekhar Rao, gave this to MBBS hopefuls as a Dussera present, according to state health minister T Harish Rao.
These colleges weren't funded by the union government, which hasn't approved a government medical college for the State in the previous eight years. The State government also improved the nearby district hospitals and connected them to the new medical colleges.
