New Delhi: The Tamil Nadu (TN) Fee Committee led by Justice K Venkatraman has decided to increase the fee for medical and dental education (MBBS and BDS Course) in all private colleges in the state from the current year.

As per the reports, the fee for UG medical and dental courses has gone up between INR 35000 to INR 1 lakh as announced by the fee committee. The one-year fee for government reserved seats for MBBS and BDS courses has increased from INR 4.3 Lakh to INR 4.5 Lakh.

In addition to this, the one-year fee for administrative quota seats reserved for MBBS and BDS courses has increased from INR 12.5 Lakh to INR 13.5 Lakh. While the fee for seats reserved for NRIs in the state has now gone up from 23.5 Lakh to INR 24.5 Lakh for the current year.

The officials stated that if the seats reserved for NRIs are not filled, they will be transferred to the general pool, for which the fee is fixed at INR 21.5 lakh per annum. The costs increased by the committee include special fees, enrollment fees, tuition fees, sports fees, laboratory fees, etc.

Furthermore, private medical colleges in Tamil Nadu are permitted to collect development funds, which can go as high as INR 40,000 per student. However, there will be no increase in accommodation, transportation and food charges. These additional charges will be paid separately.

As a result of the fee hike, students who wish to apply for MBBS/BDS courses in private colleges will have to pay upto INR 1 lakh annually. The medical course fee is already high and with the increase in current fee rates, students have to pay extra fees to pursue their education.

Tamil Nadu will get new private colleges, namely Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University and Venkateswara Medical College Hospital. For this, the government has fixed the fee for reserved seats at INR 5.4 lakh, administrative quota seats at INR 16.2 Lakh and NRIs fee at INR 29.4 lakh.
