New Delhi: After Home Minister Amit Shah launched the MBBS books in Hindi in Madhya Pradesh, the Tamil Nadu government has also announced that preparation is underway to offer undergraduate medical programs in the Tamil language in the state.

As per the officials, a new medical college is reportedly being planned for this purpose in the state. The government intends to construct the proposed medical college at the Greater Chennai Corporation-run Communicable Diseases Hospital in Tondiarpet.
Health Minister Ma Subramanian stated that construction on this college wouldn't begin until six state districts received approval from the Center to establish new medical colleges. Through these colleges, the state will aim to offer medical undergraduate courses to students in their native language.
In order to open a medical college in the districts of Perambalur, Mayiladuthurai, Tenkasi, Ranipet, Tirupattur, and Kancheepuram in session 2023, the directorate of medical education will get permission from the National Medical Commission (NMC), he added.
"Three professors who were assigned to diversion duty have already spent the last year transcribing first-year MBBS textbooks into Tamil. The translation project will likely be finished in a month, at which point we will contact linguists to determine whether the translations are flawless" he informed.
He further added that "this effort would continue for 10 days after which the Chief Minister will distribute the textbooks. In addition to this, states like Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra are also planning to offer MBBS programs to students in languages other than English.
Medical and technical courses will begin in Hindi next year, according to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. While the Maharashtra Government has announced that MBBS will begin in Marathi during the following academic year.
