Students with Low Marks in Boards Can take Admission in Top Universities, says UGC Chairman

New Delhi: The UGC chairman, Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar has announced that the students failing to get high marks in the Board's are now eligible to take admissions in top universities across the country.

Students intending to secure admissions in top universities can now apply without the burden of scoring very high marks in the range of 99 to 100 percent in board exams, the UGC chairman said.

Kumar said that the students were unable to obtain admissions in premier universities due to their low board scores, however, it is now possible.

With the participation of a large number of universities too is very encouraging, many more universities are likely to implement CUET in the coming years.

He also hinted the possibility that CUET may be conducted twice in a year from the next academic session, which will further help the students to plan and attempt CUET, said Kumar.

A day after the NTA concluded the registration process for the CUET UG 2022, the UGC Chairman announced that a total of 11,51,319 candidates have registered and 9,13,540 have paid the application fee for CUET-UG 2022.

Kumar notified that most of the candidates who have registered for CUET-UG are from remote and rural areas.

Introduced this year, the CUET-UG 2022 has been adopted by almost a total of 44 central universities, 12 state universities, 11 deemed universities, and 19 private universities. Earlier, last week, the UGC Chairman announced the opening of the application window for CUET for post graduation (PG) courses, which is likely to be held in the third week of July 2022.

According to the latest reports, Delhi University (DU) has received over 6 lakh applications which is the highest number received by a varsity. Last year, around 3.5 lakh applications for admission to undergraduate courses were recorded.

Further, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has received as many as 3.94 lakh applications followed by Allahabad University with 2.31 lakh applications.

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) has recorded 1.49 lakh applications, with Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) receiving 1.21 lakh applications and 57, 000 applications received by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

Among the state universities, Ambedkar University, Delhi (AUD) has received as many as 1.28 lakh applications and the highest, followed by UP’s Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) with 97,376 applications.

The UGC data revealed that even IIMT, Meerut has received 1.37 lakh applications, becoming the top draw among private universities.

Recently, the Union government announced the exemption of eight Central Universities in the Northeastern states and one in Uttarakhand from conducting CUET 2022 for admissions to undergraduate courses.
