New Delhi: St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, has informed the Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh and other stakeholders that it is going to conduct an interview for all the applicants who will be shortlisted by the CUET (Common University Entrance Test). There will be no discriminaton between the applicants from minority and non-minority backgrounds.

In an official press release by the St. Stephen’s College, the authority informed that the admissions will be based on 85% weightage to CUET and 15% weightage to the interview round.
“This is the admission process - time-tested, proven and guaranteed through a landmark judgement delivered by the highest court of the land - that will be followed for admission to the college,” as stated by the college authority.
The college authority also explained that it will follow the CUET mandate of DU and all the applicants will have to appear to the CUET, administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
This rule will be observed strictly by the college. This press release came as a response to “some unverified reports being circulated in the media regarding admissions to St. Stephen’s College”.
Explanation by DU VC Regarding the Admission Process:
DU made CUET mandatory for admission to the UG courses last month, as per the mandate by the UGC. Earlier the council had released a notification making CUET mandatory for admission to all 45 central universities in India.
Earlier, on April 15, 2022, Yogesh Singh, the Vice-Chancellor of DU, stated that the university didn’t want any confrontation with the college and tried to resolve the issue through dialogue.
“We do not want any confrontation and will work it out. We are not challenging their legal authority but will discuss things with them and find a solution,” as informed by Singh to the PTI.
Singh further dictated that for admission of the general candidates, the college should only consider CUET scores. It can conduct interviews for the minority students and assign 85% weightage to CUET scores.
As a point of rebuttal, the college authority decided to assign 15% weightage to interviews and 85% weightage to CUET scores for all the students.
St. Stephen’s also said that being a minority institution, it has the sole right to proceed with admissions as per its own admission policy. According to St. Stephen’s College Admission 2022 policy, the college reserves 50% of its seats for the general candidates and remaining for the Christian students.
