SP Jain Institute of Management and Research has announced that it has closed the autumn placements for its 2021 class for the two-year full-time PGDM programme. This year, the autumn season ran on a virtual campus recruitment model that was quickly put in place after the pandemic forced the campus to close.
88 recruiters participated in the internship process at SPJIMR, making 268 offers to 236 participants from the PGDM class of 2021 across BFSI, e-commerce, FMCGs, pharmaceuticals and consulting.

The highlight of the season was the virtual recruitment process that was handled using platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Cisco WebEx and Amazon Chime. Group discussions and interview panels were replicated virtually through unique features across different platforms.
The 2021 batch was also the first to complete the specialization semester of PGDM second-year online. This helped the students familiarize themselves with the features of online platforms. The institute and student bodies arranged faculty sessions, mock group discussions and interviews to expedite the transition to the new mode of recruitment.
There were 61 new recruiters, including Allianz Investment Management, Invesco Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential AMC and Prione.
The Dean of SPJIMR said that the successful placements were the result of cooperation among the placement team, faculty, alumni and corporate partners.
The results came at a time when there was a dramatic shift in economic conditions. There was an outlook of slower or even negative growth that compelled many sectors to change strategies.
FMCG and e-commerce were the most dominant sectors in terms of the number of hires. 33 percent and 15 percent of the participants were placed in these sectors, respectively.
The median compensation for offers with stipends for the two-month internship was 240,000 INR, while the average stipend was 201,000 INR. More than 60 percent of the batch received offers of 200,000 INR and above.
The autumn placement is an innovation of SPJIMR, allowing participants to take up an internship after they have completed a rural internship and specialization courses at SPJIMR. This, in combination with the virtual classes, offers a differentiated value proposition to companies.
The autumn process allows companies to recruit SPJIMR participants who are more knowledgeable because they have completed their specialization phase; quick to adopt digital means and able to work remotely; and have had exposure to life and conditions in rural India because they have completed a four-week rural internship.
