New Delhi: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has laid the foundation stone of Sant Attar Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences at Mastuana Sahib.

According to the latest reports, Sant Attar Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences would be built on 25 acres of land with an estimated cost of INR 345 crore.
The decision to establish the institute has been made in order to raise the standard quality of education in Punjab. Mann said that his government was committed to providing quality medical facilities to the people and that the institute will be a step forward in this direction.
Mann said that the project will be a humble and worthy memorial to the great religious leader Sant Attar Singh, who spread the message of universal love, peace, and communal harmony to mankind.
Four Cabinet ministers and five Aam Aadmi Party legislators attended the ceremony, but the health minister, Chetan Singh Jouramajra, who had recently come under fire for "humiliating" the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences vice-chancellor, was noticeably absent.
Instead, it was discovered that Jouramajra, who had made the V-C quit after forcing him to lay on a filthy mattress during an inspection, was present at a college event in Patiala.
The Chief Minister recalled Sant Attar Singh's role in promoting education and stated that the institute will aid Sangrur in becoming a regional centre for medical education.
In addition to building an academic building, the project includes expanding the capacity of the Sangrur Civil Hospital from its present 220 beds to 360 beds and also establishing a nursing school.
He stated that the medical college would be ready by March 31 next year, and the academic classes would start on April 1.
Further, Mann added that his government is developing plenty of funding for the several pro-people and development-oriented projects. He declared that his government was committed to providing citizens social security and added that the beneficiaries would receive their pensions at their homes. Atta-Dal will also be given to people at their homes.
