New Delhi: Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has announced setting up a state-of-the-art “Punjab Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences” at Mohali under the Punjab Budget 2022-23. The announcement was made during the presentation of first budget for FY23 on June 27, 2022.
The newly announced Punjab Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences will aim to offer advanced training and research in the field of hepato-biliary sciences to interested students. It will work as a super-specialty hospital and focus on diagnosis and management of liver and biliary diseases.
Informing about this initiative, Finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that this medical institute will be the second government medical college in Mohali after Dr. BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Science.
The government is also preparing to make Mohali a hub of industry and information technology (IT). To achieve this goal of making Mohali an IT Hub, Punjab Government has proposed a financial technology (Fintech) City near the district.
As per the officials, Fintech City will provide various facilities to encourage participants in the areas of financial technology, blockchain technology, and artificial intelligence among others.
In addition to this, the government plans to acquire an area of 490 acres in Mohali to set up various industries. The government has also proposed a budget of INR 5 crore to install CCTV cameras to increase security and safety of common people in the state.
The Punjab government has also proposed to start a "Punjab Young Entrepreneur program" for class 11th students of Punjab Board. Under this initiative, the government aims to introduce students to various business ideas.
Informing about this program, the officials stated that students will be offered INR 2,000/- under this program. Additionally, government will also establish 17 "Mohalla Clinics" in the state under its proposed budget of INR 77 crore.
