PTU to Offer 'Connect to Roots' Course for NRI Students from January 2022; Read Details Here


New Delhi: Inder Kumаr Gujrаl Рunjаb Teсhniсаl University (PTU) will be offering a one year course titled, 'Connect to Roots' Course for NRI students from January 2022. This is perhaps the foremost initiative by the university to keep the younger generation of NRIs rooted to their Punjabi culture, language and literature

IK Gujrаl Рunjаb Teсhniсаl University (PTU) has reportedly said that even if the course is designed for NRI students, applications are open for all interested candidates. The admission date and schedule will be determined by the geography of the bulk of participants' home countries. The university will also finalise the course fee and other course-related details soon.

As per the latest updates, Vikas Garg, Vice-Chancellor and Secretary of the State Technical Education Department, gave preliminary clearance to the programme on Wednesday (December 29, 2021) and sent it to the University Academic Board for final approval.

Despite the fact that the training is geared for NRIs, it will be open to everyone. Other pertinent aspects, such as costs, will be determined shortly.

PTU 'Connect to Roots' Course Overview

Classes for this one year course will commence from Jаnuаry 2022. 'Connect to Roots' course has been divided into two semesters.

In the first semester, the two-hour course will cover the fundamentals of Punjabi, including alphabets, sentence creation, writing, listening, grammar, and literature in Punjabi. The second semester will focus on Punjabi culture and its diversity, as well as Punjabi literature.

"The one-year degree course in Punjabi Language, Literature, and Culture will be delivered online with two hour-long classes in the unit each week," said Sarabjit Singh, head of the Department of Humanities, Languages, and Culture.

"We started in August and planned the entire course, especially the content, to be taught in the course," Sarabjit continued. The Punjab Ministry of Tourism has established a "Connect with the Roots" programme for NRIs. In order to market the course, we will also collaborate with the tourism department."

Sarabjit noted that the initiative will benefit NRIs because the participants' employment would improve. "In western countries, where understanding of Punjab and Punjab culture is a vital prerequisite, newspapers, journals, Punjabi news portals, and other companies are developing."

"As a technological institution, we have signed multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with overseas universities," said Jaspreet Singh, the university's registrar. We frequently receive requests from NRIs to conduct short-term diaspora courses, Jaspreet, a Jalandhar ADC (Development) as well, added.

PTU: Initiatives for International Students

I K Gujral Punjab Technical University has many MoUs with international universities along with an international students cell in the department of Planning and External Programs. This cell guides international students with the admission process.
