The newly constructed institution is the region's first AIIMS. The PM of India will establish the foundation for new projects as well as formally launch the facility.

According to Executive Director Ashok Puranik, patient care services at AIIMS Guwahati commenced with restricted OPD for local people in September and telemedicine in August of last year. He said 85 percent construction work at the project site is already complete.

The majority of the clinical departments are operational, and the outpatient department treats 150 patients on average every day. He claims that the services offered include daycare, pharmacies, workspace, and radiological exams.

Puranik stated that the hospital will be completely operational with a capacity of 750 beds within the next three to four years. Puranik continued, "We are currently taking baby steps with 150 beds to become operational from April 14, 2023 but within the coming three or four years, the hospital will be fully functional with a capacity of 750 beds.

According to the official, the hospital will offer "high-quality patient care services” in a number of specialties and subspecialties, including cardiology, neurology, burns and plastic surgery, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, and interventional radiology.

Providing cutting-edge patient care, top-notch medical education, and cutting-edge research are the three main goals of AIIMS Guwahati, which was founded with the help of Assam's surrounding states of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Manipur, according to him.

Puranik stated that the institute's objectives are, “To correct regional imbalances in the availability of cost-effective and dependable tertiary healthcare service, to augment facilities for quality medical education, and to provide comprehensive, high-quality, and holistic tertiary care health services to the people of Assam and neighboring states".

Additionally, it will offer sophisticated laparoscopic facilities, trauma care, cancer treatment, organ transplantation, regenerative medicine, genetics, and "futuristic interventions like robotic surgery, genetics, and simulation lab".
