Patna University Colleges Likely to Open from Jan 4, Check Details Here

Patan University (PU) has started preparations for resuming normal classes from January 4, 2021. The varsity has told its affiliated colleges and departments to begin preparing for offline classes by adhering to strict Covid-19 guidelines.

The state government is yet to release guidelines to be followed after commencing normal classes in schools and colleges. The Vice-Chancellor of Patna University, GK Choudhary said that along with the resumption of classes, efforts to open hostels are also being taken.

Choudhary said that they would write a letter to the district administration seeking permission to reopen the hostel which remained closed since March 2020 because of the lockdown imposed due to COVID 19 pandemic.

If the district administration provided permission to reopen the hostel, then PU would make necessary arrangements to provide accommodation to students studying in the University.

Chaudhary also added that classes would be started for only Degree part 3 (honours) with 50% of class strength. This means a class of 60 students will be divided into two classes of 30 students each with a separate time table. PU will announce the time table for different classes soon.

However, as of yet, there is no degree part 3 class in PU since the results of degree part 2 have not been declared yet. The VC assured the students that results for part 2 examination would be declared as soon as possible and third-year classes will be commenced for the qualified candidates when the university opens after Christmas.

NK Jha, PU students’ welfare dean said that a meeting of officials was held on December 19 to discuss ways of holding classes with precautions. Various measures like sanitization and social distancing were discussed. In addition, ways to hold final year UG and PG classes were also discussed.

Sashi Sharma, Principal of Magadh Mahila College said that they have already made all arrangements to start classes from January 4, 2021. Since only final year students would be called first, there will be no shortage of classrooms and there will be no need to call students on alternate days.

Sharma said that the only problem with this arrangement was the fact that a teacher would have to take 2 classes on the same topic. She also said that it won’t be much of a problem because the teachers won’t be having too much workload as of now.

In its notification released in mid-November UGC had directed colleges to hold their classes as per their own convenience by taking measures against Covid 19. The directive of the UGC also allowed institutes to seek written consent from the students.
