NTA Decides to Conduct CUET Twice a Year from Next Session Says UGC

New Delhi: As per UGC Chairman, the Common University Entrance Test, CUET UG 2022 has recorded over 2 lakh registrations for sessions 2022-23. So far, a total of 11,51,319 candidates have submitted their registrations, out of which 9,13,540 have paid their application fees.

Informing about the data, UGC Chairman, M Jagadesh Kumar announced that many students who have registered for CUET UG 2022 are from remote and rural areas. Additionally, applications have also been received by students from state and union territories of the country.

Referring to CUET UG 2022 registrations, the UGC chairman officially tweeted, “A record 1151319 candidates have registered and 913540 have paid application fee for CUET-UG. Students from every state and union territory have applied”.

With this, the CUET UG 2022 examination will provide an equal admission opportunity to students of various examination boards, states, and union territories. They will no longer have to face the burden of scoring extremely high marks in board examinations, he added.

The official tweet reads, “Without the burden of scoring very high marks in the range of 99 to 100% in board exams, students can now try for admission to the best of the universities through CUET”.

“For students who could not get high board scores, earlier it was not possible to get admission to top universities. But now it is within reach,” he tweeted.

Adding to the statement, Professor Kumar stated that the participation of central universities in CUET 2022 is one of the main reasons why students from different backgrounds and states are encouraged to apply for the common entrance examination.

We are hoping that more universities around the country will accept CUET for admission and will encourage students to register for the same in the coming year, he added.

CUET Likely to be Held Twice a Year From Session 2023

Informing about the exam, UGC Chairman, M Jagadesh Kumar hinted that there might be a possibility that CUET may be held twice a year from the next academic session.

Kumar further stated that CUET will not be confined to admissions to Central Universities, as some renowned private universities have expressed interest in using the common entrance exam results for undergraduate admissions.

He said, "To begin with CUET will be conducted once this year but NTA will consider conducting the exam at least twice a year from next session. The entrance exam will not just be limited to Central Universities but also private varsities. Several prominent private universities have indicated that they would like to come on board and admit students through CUET".

CUET will not make board exams obsolete, nor will it promote a "coaching culture," according to UGC Chairman who also stated that students from state boards will not be at a disadvantage in the undergraduate admission process.

As of now, the NTA is inviting applications for CUET PG 2022 on its official website at nta.ac.in. Interested applicants can submit their registrations for the entrance examination till June 18, 2022, and pay the application fee for the same till June 19, 2022.

Following the CUET PG 2022 Exam Dates, the examination is expected to be held in the 4th week of July 2022 for all registered candidates. The admit card for the exam will be made available for download in the 3rd week of July 2022 on NTA’s official website.
