NLU and Delhi Police Ink’s MoU to Train Forces in Legal Matters; Check Details Here


Delhi Police has signed a MoU with National Law University (NLU) to educate legal information to police officers, as per the official announcement. 

The MoU was signed at police headquarters by NLU, Delhi Vice Chancellor Srikrishna Deva Rao, and Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana.

The NLU Delhi notice reads, "The partnership aims to disseminate legal knowledge and processes and relevant law-oriented learning among police personnel through lectures, seminars, workshops, role plays and other practical methods."

"NLU Delhi faculty will undertake courses on the Constitution of India, Code of Criminal Procedures, Indian Evidence Act, Indian Penal Code and important Minor Acts like Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, Arms Act, Juvenile Justice Act, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Information Technology Act, Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act etc," as per the release.

NLU Delhi has created legal topic modules for forces at various levels, including sub-inspectors and Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS) officers.

Furthermore, refresher training for in-service officers and promotion courses for assistant sub-inspectors/ sub-inspectors will be held. E-learning programs on numerous legal topics have also been developed.

Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana stated, "Seventy percent of our battle in the investigation is fought in the court of law and a strong legal foundation is very significant for securing a conviction in any case."

Additionally, he said, "Keeping this in mind, the investigation has been separated from other law and order duties and a separate wing has been dedicated for this at police station level".

NLU Delhi Twitter post reads, "NLUD & @DelhiPolice have signed an MoU. Through this partnership, NLUD will provide law-oriented learning & legal training for police officials through specially designed modules. NLUD looks forward to a meaningful engagement with @DelhiPolice".
