National Means cum Merit Scholarship Scheme 2022: Last date to apply extended till November 15

New Delhi: NMMSS has extended the deadline for NMMSS application submissions for the forthcoming academic year 2022–23 to November 15, 2022. Previously, the applications had to be submitted by October 31.

NMMSS gives scholarships to deserving students from economically disadvantaged groups as part of the "National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme". The scheme was introduced in an effort to prevent class 8 dropouts and encourage them to pursue secondary school.

Every year, one lakh new scholarships are given to deserving students in the ninth grade, with continuation or renewal in the tenth through twelfth grades for those enrolled in state government, government-aided, and local body institutions. The scholarship is worth INR 12,000 each year.

The National Means Cum Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS), a one-stop hub for scholarship programmes offered to students, is boarded on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Following the DBT mode, NMMSS scholarships are paid out electronically through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) directly into the bank accounts of chosen students. This programme is entirely funded by the government.

Eligibility Criteria for NMMSS 2022-23

The scholarships are available to students whose total parental income does not exceed INR 3,50,000 per year. For the purpose of being eligible to take the selection test for a scholarship, students must have earned at least 55% of the possible points in their Class VII exam, or an equivalent grade (with a 5% relaxation for SC/ST students).

L1 is the Institute Nodal Officer (INO) Level and L2 is the District Nodal Officer (DNO) Level. There are two degrees of verification. The final date for INO level (L1) and DNO level (L2) verification is December 15, 2022, respectively.
