MP Requests Delhi Government to Revoke Circular on "cancelling" EWS Admissions

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Member Parvesh Verma has requested the Delhi government to revoke the circular on cancelling the EWS admissions.

MP Requests Delhi Government to Revoke Circular on

According to the circular, the BJP leader attempted to revoke the admission of children in the "economically weaker section" (EWS) and "disadvantaged group" categories in independent schools over the previous seven years.

The Education Department's circular stated that the Delhi government would not recognise any offline admissions made under either of the two categories after 2016–17.

The MP attended a meeting sponsored by the Co-ordination Committee of Public Schools (CCPS), where he engaged with the parents in a conversation on the issues brought on by the Delhi government's most recent decisions.

As per the CCPS statement, the Delhi government released this circular in 2022 with the intention of revoking admissions made by children in the previous seven years, harming their education and upsetting their future.

It continued stating that until today, the children were permitted to enrol in offline admission in numerous private schools in the national capital if seats in the courses above the second grade remained vacant in schools.

Verma criticised the Delhi government as well, pleading with them to prevent this dispute from impeding the education of these children.

He added that the Delhi government had instructed the schools to post the number of vacant seats in each class on notice boards, which was being followed by the private schools. In addition, these vacancies used to be validated by concerned Delhi government authorities.

The circular needs to be immediately retracted by the Delhi government. It consistently releases large advertising in which it keeps on appreciating its own virtues while making little apparent effort to support children's education.

According to Verma, the aspiration of parents to enrol their children in public schools will stay unfulfilled with such actions.

He said that with the exception of 30–40 schools, there are not even basic utilities provided in the other schools and that the conditions in Delhi government-run schools are appalling.
